I mean, He wasn't the Messiah they expected and he showed up four years early. But you'd think the dating system would have been a clue.

"So Nu. It's 20 BC already, think He'll be on time? We'll have to wait and see. Such a bigshot He thinks he is--can't call if He's going to be late?"

Ain't seen Elijah yet, Docsholl. But, word on the net is that Jeremiah is back.

That was a nasty surprise for Judas, Suzb. He was a bit of a firebrand. The epithet "Iscariot" comes from the Latin, "Sicarriae." Literally "daggermen." a cult of Judeaen Assassins. I think the betrayal was about forcing the Messiah's hand. I can just see Judas nudging people in the crowd at the crucifixion and saying, "Boy their in trouble now! Just you wait and see waht He does!"

We were surprised?
He was just another Jew.
As for the messiah...we all know that Elijah will be the one to announce the arrival of the messiah...so keep your eyes and ears open for Elijah!

Jesus was not the Jewish Moshiach. He didn't even come close to fitting the bill. The Jewish conception of the Messiah is VERY different from the Christian one.

They weren't surprised. In fact, they never even heard of him. Neither inside Israel nor outside of it.

Might be because the Jesus myth is based on earlier religious "saviour" figures, and the stories are the same, almost word for word even.

Nice try though.

The Jews weren't surprised, they just didn't find the case that he was a messiah very compelling.

How silly can you get... the dating system you are using came about much later.

They were expecting a different type of messiah, more like King David.

Peace!

They weren't surprised he showed up. They didn't think a man of such greatness would have to (or be able to) be killed.

Why were they surprised? Because they didn't get the memo.

I'm not a religious person, but my guess would be, he was their messiah, and look what happened.
