when to call and what are the restrictions

1. You will not be allowed to use your phone on the plane.
2. At cruising altitude you are too far from towers anyway.
3. If you are low enough, and get past the notice of a flight attendant, you may contact so many towers that you get a $700 bill on one call.
4. Use the Airphone on board if you must make a call.

The best bet is to use the in-flight phones most aircraft have on board. You're going to have a very, very hard time making a cell call form an aircraft at 30,000 feet going 600 miles an hour.

No you definately cannot cause if you ever do, that might be the last call of your life.....
Turning your mobile in flight will disrupt the navigation system of the aircraft.

Never even attempt that while in a plane. Its a criminal offense that bears the charge of endangering other's lives. Instead, use the phones offered by the airline. A call costs a fortune but its worth it if for somebody very special.
