I grew up Baptist my entire life. But, now that I am grown and can make my own choices, I have done a lot of studying and truly believe that religion has been created.

The churches originally used God and heaven to make money, then to keep their members "in line". Now, I believe religion has become a social place instead of worship.

I do not go around talking down on religion. I believe that many people need their faith to get through the hard times in life; that is what they rely on. I have never told anyone that I do not believe in him because I live in such a small town. Does anyone believe the same?

Also, for those of you who do believe in God. Honestly, is it out of fear or not? Because when I was raised yes we were taught that he loved us, but the main reason we asked him into our hearts was because we would do anything to get into heaven and avoid hell.

I think you'll find that there is a wide variety of reasons that people believe in gods. Please don't be too quick to settle on one explanation.

However, I think you're on track, and if you're patient, you'll find your current direction rewarding. I think it's a very good decision not to "go around talking down on religion", though I wouldn't be so politically correct about it as to wind up lying to avoid offending people.

Yes. I am a Christian and I believe religion is all man made. I don't consider Christianity a religion as it was originally based on Jesus' teachings and life. Religion is man made rules and regulations on how to worship God. I go to a non denominational church. It is not fancy (warehouse sytle) and the monies go to good causes. They give a statement at the end of the year to show where the money went - including the pastor's wage. I don't think you have to go to church to be a Christian. As christians, "we are the church". But like you said, it IS a social place. I think it is good for people who want to be there and learn more about the bible. I don't agree w/ churches that want to run & rule their parishoners and keep them in line or tell them what they can and can't do. That is between you and God.

Lot's of people don't believe in God. Some are convinced, some are undecided, some swing back and forth between faith and doubt. I think all religions are created by people, but I don't think that makes them any less valid unless they have no value beyond their claims to be revealed. If a religion makes you a better, more ethical and moral person, and a church or synagogue, mosque or temple, etc., provides you with a healthy supportive community, that's valuable regardless of what you believe about God.

Your right and wrong. Religion was created by God and his son Jesus. When Jesus, by the will of his father God,came down from heaven ,he started his church . By all the miracles ,healing and blessings, people began to believe in him. With each day their faith grew. All that is required of us is that we believe in him and follow him in his will so that we may have everlasting life. He is the way, the truth, and the life, no man comes unto the Father except through Him "Jesus".He is not about making money, but saving your soul from hell.

Religion is a practice
The existance of God doesn't rely on which denomination of Christian is right or wrong, so I don't see the sense of arguing about it. I wonder what God would say? Anyway, the corruption or some churches today lead people away from God, but in truth it is NOT God who corrupts. I believe God is watching over every single one of us, whether or not we spend our time analyzing documents of the Church or not. I hope what I said helped, and I hope that you find a way to solve your problem.

I agree with you completely. I live in the south, and I told my wife how I felt, and she blew up. She thinks I hate god and am evil. I don't hate him, I just don't believe there is one. Living in a part of the country like this where it seems that about 99% of people are Christian, it can be down right dangerous to say you are not one of them. It stinks because I worry that it will affect carreer progression and all sorts of other things. I wish I could find some other people in my area that thought the same way I do. Or thought at all for that matter.

i believed in god for about 30 years - then i grew up and took a real hard look at religion and realised i was wrong - he isn't there - yes i agree with you and i understand why you can't speak out because of where you live but hang in there .

the sad thing is there are probably lots of others like you in your town but they keep quiet for the same reason.

Yep, that sounds like my story, except that I started out Lutheran.

I try not to put down others for believing, since I believe that religion is a very personal thing, but I don't hide the fact that I'm an atheist.

many religions have changed for the worse if you are in that religion so I can see you moving away from religions because of that bad change but don't move away from God!
religion is MOSTLY man made but actually God created the Catholic Faith, that I know is truth because I have thought about it and found out that it logically is so
good luck and don't abandon God!! He will never abandon you
