The 257 Roberts is formed from 7 x 57 Mauser, while the .25 Souper (also called the 25/308 Winchester) is formed from 308 Winchester.
Every thing I see shows the 257 Roberts to out perform the .25 Souper.
The 257 Roberts has 10 to 15% more case capacity, there for allowing for more powder and or a more diverse powder selection to be used.

The only time the 257 Roberts and .25 Souper will be equal or even close to equal is when using the lighter bullets as employed for varmints.
Which gives way to the 257 Roberts to excel with the heaver weight bullets and be a far better at performing 2 jobs, excellent varmint caliber and big game caliber ( big game as in deer and antelope).

I have a rifle that I chambered for the .257 Ack Imp and It will out do the original .257 Roberts by 200 fps., with certain bullets it will bump up just under 25-06 velocities. I built it for mountain hunting in Colorado, but find it works good for all types of hunting and the light weight of the gun is a dream to carry. I am not sure what cartridge you are refering to when you say the .25 Souper, is that the Warren Page cartridge?

I think the .257 Roberts would be better since it would use less powder and have less blast and recoil, and would put less wear on the barrel than a .25-'06 or a .257 Weatherby Magnum.

Actually there is one quarter inch cartridge I like even better than the .257 Bobs, and that is the .250-3000 Savage.

The .250-3000 Savage is more than adequate for deer with heavier bullets and a great varmint round with the lighter bullets. Best of all, it comes in the Savage M-99 rifle, and some dandy short action bolt-action rifles.

If you want a super flat shooting cartridge, and you don't mind using lots of powder, go with the .257 Weatherby. It does have higher velocity and shoots flatter than any other quarter inch cartridge. However, it wears out the barrel faster as well. Another down side is that if you want to load down to .257 Roberts, or .250-3000 Savage levels, that big Weatherby case will require more powder to get the same velocities as the smaller cartridges. That is one reason I'm not very fond of any of the Weatherby cartridges.
