My roommate qualified for financial aid from our local community college and he's going to get loans. However, he needs a cosigner and has no one to help him out with it. What can he do for money so he can go to school? He says if he can't get in this year that he's just not going to go to school.

He should get a job, I know, he knows. However...and this may sound like a cop out...he has anxiety about being around people...serious anxiety..and he's clinically depressed. He should see a doctor about it, but he can't and his family can't afford health insurance in order to do so. So, he's stuck in a loop.

He knows that if he goes to school he has a job waiting for him with me and our roommate. So, he'll suffer through school in order to get a sweet job.

He needs to find a way to go to school. Get a job, ask at the school about jobs that would cover tuition,(work-study jobs) look into other sources of financial aid. Whatever you do DON'T cosign for him though. There are people everyday who are broke who find ways to pay for school.
Good luck!

This doesnt make sense. If he is attending a community college their costs are usually quite low. Why would he need a private loan and a cosigner? Grants and a stafford loan should take care of his expenses. Also if he does look into a private loan that requires a cosigner many lenders do not offer them to community colleges. Check first.

With studednt loans and jobs, I made my way through community college and a four year univesity. It will not be party city, but it is definately possible. He may need to lower his cost of living by lowering his standard of living. (Drive a less expensive car(or not drive a car at all), live in a cheaper apartment, take in an addtional roomate, stop eating out and cook for himself.)

He could try applying for the Federal Pell Grant. that's how I went to school.
What I don't get is, he doesn't have a job b/c he can't handle being around people.... How does he manage to go to school?
What does he plan on doing as a career if he can't be around people?

I presume, there are many generous donors, donor institutions, who always come forward for such a genuine cause. How about contacting them personally, mail etc.Further, if you can afford to assist him/her, you must do it. You can easily get scholarship, provided he/she is talented. It is my experience that 'a well deserved person, always get help even from the heaven'
In spite of all these things if NO help is availed then you can let me know.
Best of luck.
