I attended university courses in the spring, (did well) and recieved financial aid and a pell grant. I was a full time student.

This summer, I had registered for the second summer session classes, but didn't end up attending. I withdrew from my courses, with a 25% tuition penalty, which I haven't paid yet.

I went to go pay what I expected would be the 25% tuition penalties, so that I could register for fall classes, and found that I had not been charged the 25% fees, but for some reason my pell grant for $2025 has been reversed. The grant was awarded with my spring financial aid, and I can't imagine why it would get reversed for dropping summer courses. I'm waiting to hear back from the financial aid office, but in the mean time, I'm freaking out! (I don't have $2000!) This could end up being some sort of mishap or glitch within the school's financial aid system, but I'm wondering if anyone can shed some light on this in the mean time...

Thanks in advance

Usually awarding of federal financial aid is dependent on how many hours are attended within the term of the school year. Most community colleges or 4-year universities say that if you attend more than 60% of classes within the term and withdraw after that time, there is no repayment fee of financial aid. That also covers the cost of the classes that are taken upto that point. However, with that same notion, if your not through at least 60% of the term, then the school is not required to award any scholorship or federal financial aid to the student who does not complete the basic requirements of the federal financial aid program. It's really pretty basic, but conplicated at the same time. If you have questions, I would try to contact either the financial aid department of your school or also try to get in contact with FAFSA and see if they might be able to help. If needed, here's the website for FAFSA.

Based on what your indicated, it doesnt sound correct about taking away the spring pell if you attended. They would take away pell for summer but it wouldnt be anywhere near the amount you indicated. Go to the financial aid office and ask for clarification.
