Moral Policing will never help India to safeguard our culture and heritage.
This will make an average Indian much more frustrated as they will feel clautrophobic within a defined contour and will inrease perversion and other social crimes.
In order to build a responsible citizen of a country, an individual must be given the right to choose what is right and what is wrong.
You cannot create an UTOPIAN world by censoring people. This will destroy the very culture and heritage we are proud of to be an Indian.

The value in the culture is the spiritual/emotional intelligence that reads beyond a Western style literal translation without understanding. Traditions and rituals are not Indias appeal any more than a ritualistic love. It is the feeling and humaness in an increasingly mechanistice cold world. Emotional Intelligence accesses the love and superior mental capacity or the 'subconscious' picture logic of the brain for intuitive insight over shallow appearances, cutting to the reality of any situation, busness or otherwise. The emotions are on the spiritual side and spirituality is the big contribution of all Eastern culture. The proof is in the testing. Try some free ebooks on "Emotional Intelligence" and other subjects at www. trans4mind. com and see what I mean and what it does toward accessing your genius and love inside. Restrictions are the death of the mind. It considers everything, real and unreal in an unbiased scientific manner and with love and feeling. The integration of the whole person, the relation between our natures, thoughts and relations between peoples and paradoxically, accessing unity on a higher level. A people working together is an awesome force. Continuing suppresive measures which have never worked is insane, not just a bad idea. In the free exchange of ideas progress is born. I hope that is clear. If not there are many free ebooks to read or download at www. trans4mind. com "Go within, or go without." Our nature is divine and holy when we find it. It is there, inside, where all the universe comes together, what we see on the outside enters and joins with what we feel, experience and being itself, on the inside to form the whole picture and we 'know', sense what is good when we develop it. A little study to learn how it is done and it is done rather quickly. Look at all the world trying to fix it and they don't fix themselves first.

Time was when police was useful in maintaining law and order.Today the feats of the police let criminals feel shy and inadequate!Have you heard policemen in a police station put it for auction and the highest bidder gets monopoly rights to collect bribe!Under such circumstances, leaders of chauvinistic groups letting some youth to do moral policing appears to be fraught with danger.
WE are living in a civilized society.Good or bad the police only could do the policing. Moral police cannot safeguard our Indian culture or heritage.

Moral policing in no way help to safeguard culture and heritage. Cultural pollution did not happen even after foreign invasion. Mohuls and British did safeguard the moral values of India. Our moral values deteriorated and culture got polluted as we got extra freedom. No foreigner came to India to pollute our culture, after independence.
Then why the cry? No need.
There is sensorship in movies, Books and all media from the very beginning. We blocked all foreign channels from our skies. Internet, news, speaches everything comes under sensorship. There can not be any more policing. Yet we are the second largest producers of AIDS in the world.

Moral policing is not for India. India is democratic country and according to law, everyone has a right to pick their religion. and all religions being different, you can't really say what's right or wrong.
For example, Shiv Sena doesn't want people to celebrate St. Valentines Day. Well, Catholics wanna do it 'cause it's right. I wanna do it, 'cause I think it's my right. Although I am hindu, but we do believe in love.
If they think people use it as a reason to indulge into immoral activities then they should as well ban Diwali. 'cause that's when people go and gamble. Not every one does it, but this day is very well abused by some people.
I follow laws of my country and shiv saniks break laws by destroying shops that sell flowers, chocolates or cards on valentines day.
Do Shiv Saniks think they have a right to decide what's right or wrong. Why not ask gov't to pass a bill against Valentines Day. Because it won't work. It's against Indian constitution.
But Shiv Sena won't understand that.
Good Luck India.

I'm surprised many people answer otherwise!
Lets begin by understanding what is culture. Its a set of traditions. A set of habits so deeply engraved in oue lives that they become an integral part of it. Now Habits are formed out of need.(eg. If you feel really ill in the morning it will become your habit to eat less or healthy food, or for a more apt example lets say the tradition of getting young girls married in the same caste arised from the need of keeping them safe and the fear of unkwon) Culture and tradition is the wisdom passed on from generations and generations. However culture and traditions both, can never stay the same. this will stagnant the growth of the nation and society as a whole. If we refuse to change with the changing world it will be our loss. It is the inherent law of nature to change with the changing world and we are no exemption to it. For eg our traditions and culture etc askes us to dress modestly(again arising from the fear of evil ppl misbehaving ) .However the definition of modestly changes according to the situation. If youre a working corporate woman you cant be expected to drape a saree every morning when you scarcely have the time to cook your own meal. Moral policing should be a private affair.I think the only people who have the right to tell us what to do are the ones who genuinely love us .Its not for some local goons to take care of. I think we need to have a more liberal and tolerate society which is more concerned with their own affairs and working towards their own success rather than looking around for poor women asking them to dress modestly or aiming at young lovers sharing some of their private moments. The answer is that moral policing does not help our nation in anyway!!!!! Yes, value education with reference to self dignity , manners , morals can help.

Why does indian heritage and culture have to get dragged into every celebration that doesnt have an indian origin? Makes me sick to the core to have something as rich an indian culture the center for discussions around a celebration that is nothing but a commercial field trip. ugh,

Moral is hard to define. Government can not and shall not decide the codes of moral policing. Society has to assert itself sporadically when ever the situation demands.

Do moral policing but remember that in doing so don't bring any religion sect or a particular class of society. It must in all cases free from any religion.
