I see all you fresh-faced kidlets, sitting there in your neat little rows, and you're all just pods. Pods, waiting for your instructions. Now, some of you are gonna get zapped right away and be 15-year-old prodigies, little midget Olympic gymnasts with their pictures on cereal boxes. Some of you will go on to college, and you'll find your rhythm there, then go chase down the titans of industry, or maybe straighten out our problems at the UN. But some of you, and this is the group that no one ever comes into Career Day and addresses, and it's criminal. Some of you are just gonna float along, eating spicy foods, humming black people's music into your 30s. Well into your 30s, languishing. This group of pods is gonna do a lot of languishing. And you're gonna take some heat for it. Sadly, you will. Europe's a little easier. They seem to understand a little better. So does South America. I went to Argentina one time, and everyone seemed to be sitting around. It was beautiful. But, that's okay. You stay loose. Stay liquid. Laugh a lot. But be ready. That's what Paprockis doing with his life's little pod. Staying nimble, till I get the call from the mother ship. My raison d'etat. Then I fight. Then you'll see Paprocki coming in here throwing seven different kinds of smoke!

well taking the job will provide you with more to add to your resume, so if after accepting the promotion you don't see an increase in income you can still look for a job, but you will have more experience resulting in more pay. Look at the big picture when you make you're decision. Hope that helps. Good luck!

just be honest with them. tell them that you don't want to seem like you're not a team player, but you are confused why anyone would want to take a job with more responsibilities and more stress and equal pay.

i mean, the reality of it is that NO ONE would want that! even your managers.
i'm wondering if they are setting you up.
be careful and watch yourself.
also, decline respectfully and let them know that when the position pays more, then you will consider it.

i used to hire for a large shipping company...one of the top 3 in the world, and i understood verywell that we all work to get paid. no one should ever expect someone to work for no pay...or less pay. that's crazy.
if they do, then they are brainwashed!

Take the job - Show them you can work harder for the same paycheck and odds are good that further, more lucrative promotions will be on their way.

Come to think of it don't take my advice - Listen to the answerer below me.

Yes you can, but they will think you don't like getting further in your job. Usually you can bypass a promotion once, twice is the kiss of death for future consideration.

I'd just flat out tell them (as you just told us). Hey maybe they'll give you a raise to take the new job and if you make something lame up they'll probably see through it anyhow. Its not right you should take on more responsibility that other employees without some raise.

But perhaps more pay will follow when you prove you can handle the job?
