The Feds have a dive team out here. Terrorists? Boy, if you knew the bridge like we did up here, you'd be giggling at this whole terrorist attack theory too. I drove over it a couple days before it collapsed. Believe me, something was NOT right with it.

They are leaning towards structural issues with the bridge. There were rust spots and areas of the bridge that showed it had been shifting for the past year. The FBI has a couple dive teams trying to assist in the recovery process. It wasn't terrorism and there is no proof that terrorists were involved with the collapsing of the 35W bridge. It was 40 years old, in need of repairs/replacement, and aged out before the original designers thought it would. With 100,000 vehicles crossing over it on a daily basis, the extreme temps we have in MN (100+ degrees to -20+), and the fact that the 35W bridge was the only route semis were allowed to use through that part of the Cities, it's no wonder the bridge gave way.

That was an interstate highway bridge, built with federal as well as state money. The Federal Government conducts routine inspections and recommends repairs, maintenance or replacements. Because of the history of maintenance issues with this bridge, I'm sure the Federal Governments just wants to cover all bases due to the posibility of extensive lawsuits resulting from the collapse. They want to attempt to discover the cause of the collapse to determine if any there is any possibliity of criminal negligence for failure to properly maintain the structure.

It is called a routine investigation. The state also asked if the Navy would send in a dive team in to assist. Is there gonna be a naval battle? No. They are just the best at what they do.

It's called a Mutual Aid agreement.
The locals needed an experienced forensic dive team. The FBI has one. That's all it is.

i think that the FBI thinks that the bridge collapse in minnesota was an act of terrorism. so they're probably looking for something that could've caused the bridge collapse and what could've done all that damage.. they're looking for evidence and stuff.

It is still an active investigation and the official report has not been issued. They need to verify that the cause was not criminal or terror related. While it is not expected they will find any evidence of foul play they need to exercise due diligence.
