I think by "true love", we really mean a supernatural love.
Without God, all love can possibly be is an emotion/feeling engendered through a shot of feel-good drugs provided by the mindless process of evolution with the result that we are controlled. Without God, love is a form of slavery to a drug addiction.

If you are talking about romantic love, that is chiefly sexual attraction and happy excited feelings plus friendship and shared goals. God can be in that or not. God's love doesn't have to involve feelings. Agape love is a choice to care about someone else and serve them, whether you feel warm feelings for them or not. That is what the love of God is, and it is a gift from God. The corinthian references are given in another answer so I wont bother to quote them.

The biblical monster is not about love. He is about tricking you and hoping he can punish you. His followers are too.
Maybe true love exists, but there is no guarantee it lasts.
