it is impossible for her to finish 30 pages in that day because if she is reading at 15 pages a day and already read 15 pages then the day is over,
she should go home knock back some vodka and
try again tomorrow

She's completely screwed and cannot average 30 pages a day no matter how fast she reads the rest.
Lets say the document is 120 pages. At an average of 30 pg/day, she would need to complete the reading in 4 days. Since she's only been reading at a rate of 15 pages a day, she's already used up her whole 4 days time reading only 60 of the pages. This formula works no matter how many pages the document is. So if 30 pages = 1 day to read, she already used up her day reading only 15 of the pages.

Ok, so she was reading at a rate of 15 pages a day, and she has read half of the document, and her goal was 30 pages a day, to get to 30 pages a day, she just simply needs to read 15 more pages extra a day, so she would have to proof read the rest of the document Twice as fast as she red the first part. the question doesn't state how many pages are in the document, or how long it took Mary to read the first half, so by asking "how fast" she would need to read, all I have to say is there is no suggestion of time to base any calculation on.

The day is over, if she made it half way, only to realize that she read half as much as she should have in that time (15 instead of 30) the day is already over, and she is going to have to work overtime tomorrow. Tomorrow, she will have to read 45 pages per day to get back on track.

15 pages a day?
don't know what time of day it is when she reached half way, or how long the document is, so I guess it isn't important.
she will need to read an additional 15 pages today, to reach her target of 30 pages.

she can't anymore. she had to do 30p/day but at 15 (halfway through) she realized she was doing 15p/day so she spent her whole day already. now it doesn't matter how fast she proof-reads, any more pages will take her more than a day.
