OMG! What is David S babbling about? If you have a slight "alkaline" stomach, it means that your acidity is low. Therefore you need to increase the acid and "NOT" use antacids as David has suggested. Antacids (normally chalk tablets) will reduce the acid further and are only used for those that have too much acid. Reducing your stomach acids further will agitate you. It may even encourage your liver to produce more bile. The best solution is to consult your doctor to get the correct medication / treatment. In the meantime, try eating more citrus fruit as this will help a bit. Citric Acid is not as strong but it should help. See your doctor and get it sorted and keep away from those so called Nutritionists, Herbalists, alternative medicine freaks, many of them will cause more harm than good.

Your stomach contains acid which is required to break down protein early in the digestive process. As food is moved into the small intestine, an enzyme that your body makes is applied which neutralizes the acid.

In other words, you body is designed to operate in exactly this manner. Your stomach is supposed to be acidic.

Having an alkaline stomach (which by definition means any pH over 7.0), would mean that you do not have the proper capacity to digest protein in the manner your body is designed to work.

Fortunately, your body is smart enough to at least try to counter act this. For example, if you were to take an antacid, your body quickly moves to secrete new acid to take care of the invasion of proper chemistry. This means that you can't really make your stomach alkaline, nor would you have any good reason to do so.
