What is an easy way to make money for kids that are twelve?
They are thinking baby sitting, dog wash, car wash, yard work. How much would they charge for each thing?

If I needed any of these services I would gladly pay well. Baby sitting should be at least 5-6 dollars per hour. Dog washing to me $20 is a bargain. in my area, an automatic car wash is only $6. Yard work would be based on how much work it is. Mowing a lawn (less than a 1/4 acre) with my lawn mower and gas is worth $20 to me. One shot things like weeding or clean up, a bit more.

You should be very proud that your daughter is willing to work for her money. That is an excellent way to build character. Money has much more value when you earn it.

You may want to advise her to save most of it and there are many reasons why she should but never forget that it is her money to do whatever she wants with. That is part of the lesson, too.

Back when my sons were young the roller rink was the big thing. They had their own skates but wanted what were considered much cooler ones that cost quite a bit of money. I would not buy them for them but encouraged them to work for the money. They did. They worked very hard for an entire month and had saved more than enough money.

What do you think happened next? Once they had the money in their hands, (it was about two hundred dollars each) they came to the conclusion that there were many other things they wanted besides those dopey roller skates. Heck, they already had roller skates!

You cannot teach lessons like that. People need to experience them for themselves.

They are only 12. Baby sitting $5 an hour, dog wash, $6 a dog (small med) Big dog Shepard or Dane some size to it, $8, car wash $6, yard work $6 an hour. Lower rates more jobs you get.

Things you can sell: Start with necklaces you can bead yourself.
Buy a variety of ribbons at a fabric store, cut them into lengths. put several colors together in a packet, and sell them to girls to wear in their hair.
Have a one girl garage sale and sell old toys.
Sell popcorn at soccor games, homemade lemonade at swim meets, and apples at football games.
String cranberries and popcorn and sell the strands as decorations for Christmas. Always charge more then your materials cost you, but not more.

Services you can offer friends and neighbors:
Mow lawns, weed gardens, rake leaves, shovel snow.
Walk dogs and wash dogs.
Wash cars and windows.
Help with recycling.
Do dusting.
Take in mail, water plants, and care for animals while people are on vacation.
Run errands on your bike.
Tutor.
Start a play group with a friend where parents can leave toddlers for a few hours each week.
Make treasure hunts for kids parties.
Make a haunted house and charge admission.
Wrap your head in a towel and tell funny fortunes,

AWAYS CHARGE A LOW BUT REASONABLE AMOUNT!

My daughter (who is now 20) used to make Decorative Barret's and ribbons for there friends and to sell at local craft fairs. They made a ton of money. One summer over $5,000. They also had a great time. Directions on how to make them are on the web.

They should always work together. Paper delivery. Small chores for old people perhaps. I would think minimum wage I mean after all they are working.
