My boyfriend's coming to visit me and I want to cook dinner for him. The problems are..

He's very picky. He doesn't like any green vegetables. He likes steak, but I want side dishes, too.

Also, I'm a beginner cook. So I need it simple and easy with lots of detailed instructions.

Last problem, I live in a apartment style dorm. So my resources are limited. I have a stove and oven, and a george foreman grill. haha But I don't want to be spending a great deal of money for ingredients for one dinner. I'm a broke college student.

Any ideas?

Here are some simples suggestions to complement the steak:

Side dishes:

Instant mashed potatos topped with "ready-made" gravy from a jar.

The box of mashed potatos should have directions on it- should cost about $2.00-$4.00. Read it first before you leave the store in case you need addtional ingredients like milk and butter (important for making mashed potatos). The box of potato flakes has a good shelf life and should be plentiful for future meals.

If you don't want to cook the mashed potato, you can
buy "ready-made" mashed potatos in the deli section- probably run around $5.00, depending on brand.

For a second side:

Pick up a can of corn kernels as another side dish- no more than $1.50. (hope you have a can opener). Heat the corns on a pan and let it simmer for no more than 5 minutes.
Optional: Add in butter and stir so it melts and/or
season with a dash of salt/pepper

If you really want to go the extra mile, buy a loaf of garlic bread from the frozen section- no more than $3.00. All you need to do is cut into slices while still frozen, bake it for around 8-10 minutes (directions on the package). Serve as an appetizer or as a third side.

Good luck!

if you would like to cook him steak it would be best done with a nice loin a good cut would be tenderloin (for dating purposes not economic) you can serve it with a spicy chutney / sweet onion as simple as 1/2 a mango (or apricot/peach) some chillies jalapino being the best 1 red onion 120 or so grams of sugar cook the onion in the pan first at a moderate heat then add the sugar when the onion is soft then the chillies and fruit. serve it on a bed of mash potato if you would like to be fancy throw in some dill not at all nessesery but it is a nice taist for an easy sauce as simple as when the steak has been cooked in the pan add some red wine reduce and pour over the steak. simple elegant and taistful

What is really good is just season some meat and fry it up. You can make other side dishes and if he wants them he can eat them if not you can enjoy your dinner. Good luck.

Burger and Chips, egg burger and chips, cheese burger and chips, mushroom burger and chips, bacon and cheese burger and chips, egg and mushroom burger and chips etc. etc. Any combination will do! It's cheap and he won't complain LOL PS - For the US, chips = fries

i just watched take home chef yesterday. the boyfriend was picky but loved meat. the chef prepared a stirfry dish using beef, bean sprouts, carrots and such things with a simple sauce over it. the boyfriend loved it. but you can add different vegetables. the ones that aren't green. :) and as a side dish, make it a simple bowl of rice.
