How much should it cost to have a repair man come out and look at my tv? I just picked up a tv for free, a pretty nice big screen, and I need someone to take a look at it and see if its worth fixing. Also do I need to have the tv completely hooked up or can I just plug it in the wall and they can tell if it is fixed without being hooked up to cable.

Thanks

Cost and availablity of service people varies by location.

And a good technician has a test pattern generator and does not need to have the TV hooked up to cable.

Depends on how far the technician is. The technician would most likely charge by the hour and the time charged would include travel time. If the travel time is counted as an hour and with hour rate of $80 that includes overhead and labor. We are looking at $100 at least. I would call around and see which technician has the better price.
