Sitting in a boneyard somewhere?

They sell some off, some go to air and space-type museums, others get used for parts and whatnot for airshows, etc. And plenty of them will be put in storage. They basically keep them out in a big airfield somewhere and can bring them back up to operable condition within hours or days in case they're needed. Think "in case of war, break glass"

From what has been reported, most F-14s have been stripped of cetain components and have been placed in storage. They are kept for possible reuse, but may be scrapped in the future.

Some were sent off to museums. Others in the boneyard may be placed in museums in the future.

Only one other country ever used the F-14, ironically Iran. But Iran bought them when the Shah was in power. It is doubtful that the Iranian F-14s are still in much use. The Navy retired the F-14 due to high maintenance costs, so it is doubtful Iran could keep their planes functional. Due to those high costs, I doubt any other nation will buy the left over Tomcats.

The Navy is actually dismantaling and shredding every last one of them for fear that extra parts might fall into the hands of the Iranians. The Iranians are still trying to keep a fleet of older F-14s flying that they got as a gift from President Nixon in the Mid 70's, before Iran went to insane. They desperately need parts, and the newly retired American jets would have been perfect. Aside from some jets that are being turned into museum pieces, the rest are history, literally.

There are a number of options:

1) Place them in long term storage and decide their final fate later

2) Break them up for their scrap value.

3) Convert them into target drones for 'live fire' missile testing and training.

Most are being torn into little pieces so the bad guys won't get them like in the Clinton years.

They are scrapped, some go into storage for possible later use, some are sold to other friendly countries, some are used for museum use!!

a lot of them will be broken up into spare parts. some will be used for airshows. it used to be that they would sell off a lot of the parts, but iran is really trying hard to get those parts, so right now, we are just stockpiling them.

Strip then and sell them to other countries. We have far better now so those won't be a problem. If they go to Israel, then they will be totally re-engineered and made better than before.

Davis-Monthan Air Force Base is where the bone yard is and they cannibalize them for parts!
