There should be a list of all the creditors towards the bottom of the credit report, with a phone number and address. If not search online for the company names.

If you don't recognize the debt, dispute the entry as not yours with the credit bureau. It could be an error and be removed.

Those that remain, send a letter to the creditor (contact info should be on the credit report) requesting detailed info. From there you should be able to negotiate settlement with those debts that belong to you. Get any settlement in writing and ask the creditor to remove the negative entry.

If you don't recognize it, it may not really be yours. File a dispute with the credit reporting agency and they have to investigate it. If they company who reported it can't prove it's yours, they take it off. Been there, done it.

Do a web search (google, yahoo, etc...) on each company by the name listed on the report.

The problem is, some companies "sell" their uncollected debt to collection agencies - and these collection agencies are the ones reporting to the credit bureau that you are in arrears.
