Yes, I meant to say "consciousness," I cut and pasted the above from an answer provided to another one of my questions and didn't bother to proofread it carefully. Sorry about that.

I suspect that you are not really asking about "conscience," but "consciousness," which is a different thing.

Another consideration is the notion that "an eternity" existed before you were born is rather tricky, since eternity is endless, and it would seem you believe that birth ends that particular stretch of time "before you were born."

Death is only the last stage of life. Your body will become food for other organisms, such as worms, fungi, and bacteria. The fungi and bacteria may know you are good-eating. Eventually the fungi and bacteria will die and provide food for grass and other plants, which in turn provide food for cattle. Some other human may have a steak, and the atoms that were originally in your body will end up in someone else body.

Nothing is permanent. Nothing is eternal.

Nope, by faith we believe what the Bible says. Our soul is eternal. We get one at birth.
