The swelling on the face can susbside faster bacasue the face has lots of blood supply. As long as there is no infection then healing will occur a lot faster. Putting ice initially will cause vasoconstriction which will prevent further swelling. After 48 hours, warm compress will help the blood vessels dilate and subside the swelling. It was a good thing to go to the E.R. to make sure there is no fracture to any bones on the face.
