Quotes :-
"There's no minimum age for babysitting. Working on the assumption you live in England or Wales, there's no straightforward answer to your question. There's no legal minimum age that a child can be left alone at home, although endangering a child by leaving them unattended is an offence. NSPCC guidelines recommend most children under 13 should not be left unsupervised for long. For more information, check out the NSPCC site."

I live in Texas and there is no legal age. It is just up to the parents. Some 12 years olds are responsible enough to look after a 3 year old sibling and some are not. Unless you see the child being neglected or if the children are left alone over night or for very long periods of time then you should really just stay out of it. If you think the kids are in danger then call Child Protective Services. I used to babysit when I was 12 and I know lots of kids who are 12 who stay by themselves and do just fine.

I don't know that there is a legal age for this, but it depends on the child. Some children are mature enough to handle that responsibility at 12 or 13, some it may be 16. It would depend how confident you feel letting a child babysit.

There is no legal age to allow a child to baby sit, the criteria being if the child baby siting is mature enough and responsable enough to be trusted. The crunch comes in the event of something going wrong, the parent could then be charged with wilful neglect.

Check with your local law enforcement agency or contact Child Protective Services. Each state may be different? I checked my state about what age a child could watch a younger sibling and they could not give me an answer. The parent must have some sort of safety plan in effect so the childen can call or go to a nearby neighbor, friend or relitives home in the event the parent can not be reached and in case of an emergency.

depends on the 12 yr old doesn't it? some are stupid and some are almost 13 and quite responsible.
I do believe that in the UK the age is 14.
Are you planning to call the authorities to her? Thats not nice and what goes around comes around.
Also, if that was the 3 yr olds sibling, would it make a difference? Lots of people leave younger kids with their older children.

I was under the impression that you have to be sixteen to stay at home on your own or to look after another child. It's sort of an unwritten rule. Perhaps you could contact social services to clarify the situation. Good luck.

I live in Canada. We have to take a babysitting course before we babysit other peoples children. All I know is in Saskatchewan you have to be 12 to take the course, and in Alberta you have to be 11 to take it.
