Nope, but I dunno how I would feel about getting pierced by someone with no piercings or getting tattooed by someone with no tattoos. I don't think I would like that.

My tat guy doesn't have any. He is an awesome artist and does some of the best work I have ever seen. He will work on you till you tell him the pain threshold's met. But, other than that, it's not that big a deal. If you yourself would like to have the experience so you know, find something small and meaningful to see how you take it. The longest session I have had personally was five hours. Everybody's thresholds are at different levels, but it doesn't hurt to know.

My first tattoo I ever did was on myself. It's not a requirement, but it's highly recommended. Not only for advertisment for your shop but to be able to answer that age old question "Does it hurt?". Getting a tattoo yourself, you will be better equipped to answer all the F.A.Q.'s of your customers. I only have 2 tattoos right now, one on my ankle and one on my foot, both I have done myself. I want to get one on my right forearm but I still havn't designed it. That and I'm going to have to go to another artist to get it done figuring I'm right handed.
If you do decide to get a tattoo, do not jump right into it...take your time and decide exactly what you would want. That is if you want a tattoo at all.

Tattoo ink is transparent, so whatever you cover it with has to be darker than what's already there other wise the old design shows through. So since it's black you would need either solid black on top of it, or use laser removal to lighten it enough to cover with another color.

you don't "have" to but many shops won't hire someone who doesn't convey the image of what a tattoo shop represents. plus, many people who are not tattooed probably wouldn't want to work in a tattoo shop anyway. my artist told me that if i ever worked for him i would have to have atleast one sleeve.

No, they can't make you get one. If you are a tattoo artist I would think it was weird for you not to have any, but if you are just answering the phones or doing the bookkeeping then I can't see that it would matter.

Presumably, if someone liked tattoos enough to put them on other people, he would have some himself.
I wouldn't go to an artist with no tats...they practice on themselves and each other a lot.
Plus, I would think he was a wuss or a prig...no offense man.

You dont have to. Alot of times when tattoo artist are starting out they pratice on eachother...or friends. That might be why most tattoo artist actually have tattoos. Not to mention the fact that most of them have a passion for tattoos, the history behind them, etc.

legally they can't make you have tattoos if you're working at the shop, but it lends some credibility to yoruself and makes you look "experienced" and "knowledgable" in front of your customers
