My mother-in-law lives with me and my husband. She's very loney and depressed. She's over 350lbs. and doesn't care to watch her diet and eat healthy. She claims she can't eat beans cause they make her tummy hurt! And when we go to fast food places, we spend an easy $10 just on her food! She drinks all the milk in the house that my children, (2 &3 yrs. old) need. I have to buy a gallon every 2 days! And she doesn't bathe regularly! She bathes every 2-3 months and she smells horribly all the time! Even her room reeks! You pass by the closed door to her room in the hallway and you can still smell it! She says she's fine. But we know better. And she sleeps all day long, and comes out to eat, then goes back into her room and sleeps more! I don't know how to tell her? And I'm ired of staying up for late night movies, and seeing her in the nude walking to the bathroom! It's gross! I should be nice because she helps me with my boys, and because I'm pregnant. But I'm ready for her to get out!

Your mother in law is seriously depressed and trying to kill herself by eating herself to death. No one in your family should be eating fast food, so you could start cooking nutrious healthy meals and that would take care of the cost of fast food problem. You need to set some rules for her, one is going to be getting her to a doctor for medical and mental health care.

Where is your husband in all this? You have to have a united front to help this woman, and she is his mother. Surely she qualifies for some sort of assistance that would help with the bills. You need to understand she doesn't bathe because she is not only depressed but its damn difficult at that weight. Get a nurse assistant in to help her bath, at least once a week. Tell her she cannot leave her room without being dresses, you have small children in the house and that's just not appropriate. Insist she leave her room, if nothing else so it can be cleaned and aired out. She probably has yeast infections in the folds of her skin that is causing the odor but those can become ulcerated if left untreated.

You need the help of your husband, and of a doctor, get to it or she'll die soon enough and you will be rid of her.

She does sound like a "love!" I hope to heck she helps with expenses, especially the food bill. First of all, I'd put plug in air fresheners everywhere! And invest in some Fabri fabric freshener. And since a 350 lb. woman can't walk too fast, you could safety pin one of those car freshener trees to her mu mu! If she's considered disabled, you could check into one of those home health aides. Someone coud come in an at least bathe her and talk to her about getting healthy. And last , but not least, what's hubby doin'? Tell him your grievences and help him sort this stuff out. Mommy-n-law sounds like she needs some antidepressents. She may be sleeping and eating too much because of her depression. Duh, that was a brainy conclusion! Of course that's why! I wish you luck!

By no means should you hate her. It sounds like she really needs some help mentally and physically.

As her family you should tell her how much she means to you and you LOVE her and she needs to see a doctor.

She has grandchildren who LOVE their grandma and you want to have her around to see them grow up.

Love is the answer here NOT hate.
