To make this pertinent to the R&S section, do you bring your bible? or something that will actually keep you alive?

Hard to choose between a knife and the plastic, a knife might be hard to make on an island, and leaves could be used to gather moisture, but that'd be a huge use of energy for little reward.

A good knife.
I guess the bible would be very useful too. As long as I can keep it dry it would be very useful for starting fires.

Well, I would conveniently have a Swiss army knife in my pocket (fancy that!), and I would grab water purification and desalinization tablets. I should be able to work with that.
