One of my bridesmaids dropped out of my wedding thats in 2 weeks. Luckily, I have a great friend who was able to step up and replace her. Problem is, the bridesmaid dress is a size 14, and this new bridesmaid is like a size 4. Is there any way a tailor can alter the dress enough to make it fit her?
HELP!

That's a LOT to cut down - it may look pretty weird

How expensive was the dress? It may be cheaper on the size 4 bridesmaid to order a new one in her size than to alter it, even if it is possible to alter it.

But like everyone says, it depends on the amount of work on the dress. Take it to a professional as soon as possible. They may not be able to do that in 2 weeks!! Thats really short for what is essentially taking out the seams and using the pattern to recut a new dress and completely resewing it. You may end up paying a FORTUNE for alterations.

It really depends on the style of the dress....but 90% of the time, taking in a dress more than 3 or 4 sizes will be more expensive than just buying a new gown in the proper size...and altering the dress that much will Seriously change the design of the gown, (again, depending on style).

Best bet would be to sell the old gown on ebay, buy a new gown in the proper size, and have minor tailoring done to the properly sized gown.

That depends on the dress. That is a big size difference. Taking it in that much will change the whole shape of the dress. If you have a good seamstress that know what she is doing than it should be OK.

It could cost a lot of money.

Probably not. From what I remember, they can only take something down by 2 sizes.....going down that much would be extremely challenging. The best thing would be to find an expert seamstress who could look at the design of the dress and simply use the fabric to literally MAKE a new one.

my wedding dress was very beaded, and I lost a lot of weight before the wedding. I was told that, due to the cut and the beads, it could be altered no more than two sizes. I guess it just depends on the style and how much you're willing to pay for quality work.

I JUST had to do that for myself last month. The dress was a size 14 and I am a size 2!!! It really depends on the dress and how much time you have. I had less than a week, so I had my mother in law just take it in and you couldn't even tell. But if you take it to a seamstress they should be able to do it depending on the dress! but it can be done.

It can be done but it will take lots of alterations and u will have a whole new dress made for what it may cost u to buy the dress in the appropriate size. but if u have to have it done then go for it just be prepared to pay about 200.00 for the alterations and she will have to have lots of dress fittings so good luck and i hope this helps...

No. It would be just like making a whole new dress. It would cost almost as much or more as making/buying a new dress would. Also, different sizes are cut and marked in different spots, and you may be missing some material that you need and the dress would be slightly changed.

You might be creating a whole new dress taking it in that much. Your best bet would be to take the dress to a seamstress and see how many panels or material would need to be removed before the dress just didn't resemble the others.

it depends what the dress looks like. personally my girls dresses would not have survived 10 sizes down, the pattern would have been lost. 2 weeks might not be long enough to fix it. i would look into getting her a new dress, that might be cheaper in the long run.
