I don't think that by attending church regularly but falling short of the perfection of walking by the word of the Bible is putting on a front. We are ALL sinners, we will ALL make mistakes - if you haven't yet, wait a while - once you've lived long enough, you'll have screwed up a time or two too. Will that mean you're putting on a front? No, it will mean you're merely human like the rest of us.
the kind of condemning attitute this question represents is one of the main things I think keeps more people from attending church.
I also think that the best place for someone who is struggling with an issue (of any kind - drugs, sexual sin, stealing, etc.) is in CHURCH where they can hear the word.
Blessings for greater understanding. Peace to you.

These people are going to church because they think that by going to church on Sundays will make up for the lives they live outside of church,if only it were that simple. What you said is very true, you cant hide from god ,you basically answered your own question by saying that people do it simply to put on a front for others, including God to see,the fools. At least you and I know that God sees All.

I suppose I agree with what you're saying. But not all people do this. I hope you're not suggesting all people act different (in a bad way) while outside of church and are fake in church. That is untrue.
Some people live double lives... I think you should act relatively the same whereever you are. Well, not exactly the same, but keep your values the same.
(And as for the guy named Joe D... that's just silly. Do some research, and you'll easily see Old Testament law, which you're talking about, does not apply to Christians.)

Some Christian's do that unfortunately, but in the case of me, I go to church and try to live the bible, it gets easier each day but I like everyone else am a sinner and it takes time to grow in the Lord. I don't claim I'm perfect or expect anyone else to be. We are all short of the glory of God. I'm sorry that the few Christians that don't live or try to live by the teachings of Jesus poison the perception people have of all of us.

Mainly because if you were live by the bible 24/7, you'd be in jail for stoning disobedient children and women.
But since you are a woman, be greatful nobody lives by the bible totally. You wouldn't be allowed to talk on him amongst the more honorable men. (Sexist? Why yes, it is. Though I never said I actually believed this. lol)
Thom: I think you may have to open your eyes and witness a bit more. People are people, religious or not, and will do evils regardless.
The problem with some of the religious (mostly of the "holier than thou" crowd), is that they don't seem to think some of the stuff they do is evil. The Phelps family being the extreme example in this case.

well some ppls just go to church then don't care about Him after. well that is because ppls don't really understand what God can do! God put us on this earth to spread his word not to just keep a little part of the bible in your brain and forget about it for the rest of the week. well make sure their kids or even the adults too be involved at their curch during the week and let them join a group on wed. nights!! I really hope i helped!!!!

Don't be so quick to judge. Take an alcoholic who goes to church but continues to drink. Maybe he is seeking for a way to stop. Doesn't mean he is a hynocrit. Maybe he's trying to get his life together but hasn't been able to yet. Sinners belong in church. And the Bible is meant to be applied to one's own life not to the lives of other people.
God bless.

Most church goers actually do live by the Bible; the only problem is that live by only those parts of the Bible that goes along with their own prejudices and political views. That's where the troubles begin.

Just because people go to church, does not mean that they are a Christain. If you go to Mcdonalds, you do not turn into a big Mac. Jesus said you will know them by there fruit, and if there is no fruit, then it would be hard to judge, but if there is bad fruit, then we can judge them by there fruit. Its about a relationship with Jesus and not a religion. There is so much more I could say, but until next time, bye. Jim

Actually you are being a little judgemental.... and for the record, it has been my experience that people who go to church are much more likely to be good people than people who do not (most people don't like to hear that, but I'm just telling you what I have witnessed).
By definition everyone who professes to love God his a hypocrite because we are all sinners.... I suppose if you don't profess to love God then you're not a hypocrite, but I don't think that means we shouldnt profess to love God. Jesus mentions many times that following Him will not be easy. So it shouldn't suprise you when people fall short.
