the tennants of a peacefull loving deity, is known as a violent oppressive orginization? Instead of stating it is not should Christians not accept the wrongs and work through actions to ammend their image, and not advance that view with rhetoric and a bully pulpit?

Yes the Catholic church has, but then they turn around and support the suppression of rights for gays, call for the return of prayer in schools, set quietly while pagans are ostracized and forced to hide their beliefs.
Actions speak louder than words.
They really need to remember that not too long ago they themselves were persecuted in the same way.

Not sure who you are talking about. If you are saying "if the world disagree with you and your teachings should you in love change to meet their views" if that is what you are asking the answer is NO. It is not the churches job to make the world feel comfortable, it is the Churches job, to simply tell the world the word of God, straight up as the bible says. An example might be, gay marriage. Some might say just let it be, leave it alone, how can you deny loving people the right to be together? If God says it wrong, it is wrong. The word of God does not change because society does. And that is a good thing. Imagine the mess we would be in if the word of God, changed like human ideals and values? It is NOT rhetoric or a bully pulpit to stand up for your values, views and belief, On the contrary only a double minded individual would not do so.

Well I'm a Catholic Christian and my friends and I go around oppressing people all the time. But that being said, it has been statistically proven that Catholics and Christians in general do more to help the poor and others, than their non-religious counter-parts.

As New Catholic above me stated, the Catholic church in particular, has issued public apologies for things it's members have done in the past.

The Catholic Church has accepted that people in it have messed up, it has even asked for forgiveness for those times.

I don't know what more it can do.

Peace!
