It depends on what you are willing to spend. Some princess dress up clothes are good, and so are baby dolls. Heck, you could get her a box and she'd be happy. I work with kids, and have a 2 1/2 year old myself. For his second birthday I got him the Fun2Learn Preschool Center from Fisher-Price. It's fun and educational. It has a desk that teaches shapes, upper case letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and drawing. Lift the desk and it's a music center. He absolutely loves it! I hope this helps! Here's the website where you can check it out...

This is prime time for a cute stuffed animal (check for age appropriateness on tags).
Also good are toys that make music, learning toys (moms love those) and small 4 to 12 piece puzzles. A good storybook is also great like Dr. Seuss stories or Sheep in a Jeep or anything really silly. They love silly at this age.
Good luck!

Try Puzzles, coloring books, books... Most kids that age also like Dora. My daughter was really into trains so we got her a wooden train set for her second Christmas. Personally, I like things that are more educational in nature rather than comercialized toys. Play food and kitchen things are also good at this age!

I would first ask her mother if there is anything that the child especially likes (Barbie, Bratz etc.). Or just go down the toy aisles - most stores have them categorized by age group.
I have depended on that more than once.

Push her through in the toddler toys department in Walmart. Anything she screams for the loudest is it!
