Eve was created from the DNA of Adam, thus her chromosomes would also have been the same as Adam's. So if you think about it, Eve would more aptly be named Steve.

If there was such a genetic flaw, it would be neither dominant nor recessive if everyone has it. Dominant and recessive traits, like eye color, make people have differences. The idea of original sin is everyone has it at birth. This means little newborns are somehow tainted with Adam and Eve's sin. I don't think Augustine knew much about genetics when he came up with the idea. I believe Augustine got the idea from Manichaeists living in Asia Minor, and then adapted it to the creation story. It's only been since we've discovered DNA have some churches declared original sin to be a genetic defect.

That story always amused me, because two people do not have the genetic diversity needed to populate an entire planet. After only a few generations the people being produced would be so malformed from inbreeding that they would become sterile and die off.
That's what I think of when people try to claim that the bible is the word of god. I know that people in those times didn't know anything about genetics but presumably a creator god would and would have probably mentioned it if it was in fact their word. It's things like this that clearly illustrate that the bible was written by men who were not divinely inspired. The bible isn't much more than a collection of the war stories of a band of nomadic, semi-literate desert dwellers.

Without going in to much detail, sin is not a DNA related or hereditary thing. To commit sin is to willfully disobey God's commandments or to fail to act righteously despite a knowledge of the truth (see James 4:17). Adam and Eve trasngressed, different than sin. Mankind has to live with the effects of that transgression - physical (separation of body and spirit) and spiritual (separation from God) death. But through the Atonement of Jesus Christ, these are overcome - physical death overcome as all will be resurrected, and spiritual death by those who obey His gospel will receive the gift of eternal life with God.

It isn't DNA ... it's the fact that Adam allowed himself to be swindled by the devil, and he subsequently became hopelessly and permanently enslaved to Satan, sin, and death.
Since all the offspring of a slave automatically come under the dominion of their master, all are born dedicated to Satan, and not to God.
If that decrepit situation is not remedied in this life by sacramental baptism in Christ and his church, it becomes eternal.
Hell is the result.
