of mankind have to suffer as a result?

my point exactly.
if Adam ate the fruit why do I have to suffer? It was his action not mine.

Why punish a entire group for what an individual has done?

This notion that all of the evil that has ever occurred in the entire history of humanity, all the torture and slaughter and persecution and conflict, all the disease and disaster, is due to one person plucking an apple off a tree 6,000 years ago, is just a completely, staggeringly, breath-takingly stupid idea, that anyone who is even tempted to believe it should seek medical help immediately, before they go completely bonkers and start killing people.

The author was clearly attempting to establish tension between the main character and the initial secondary characters early in the work. The 'apple' device was probably chosen for this tool because the anticipated readership would all be familiar with the fruit.

But the entire plotline relies on key event, the eating of the apple, to establish the motivations for the behavior of the primary character, God, and all the human characters introduced in later chapters.

For better, or for worse, the success of the entire work relies on the apple scene in the first chapter to establish and further tensions, between the primary character and all secondary characters introduced by the author.

Admittedly, the subsequent sufferings of secondary characters was intended by the author to flesh out the God character and allow the readership to better understand the subsequent plot line.

First, the bible said Eve ate the fruit not a apple. That act didn't create sin but it was the first sin on earth.
God gave Adam and Eve everything they needed but Eve gave into Satan and took the fruit from the tree of knowledge.
Man only suffers when we give into Satan or when we don't allow God to lead and guide us in our every day walk.

Where does the Bible say it was an apple. The reason subsequent generations suffer is because Adam ate the fruit and he was the representative of mankind.

It wasn't an apple, and if you really read the Text when Adam ate of the fruit then their eyes were open, the Bible says that through one man sin entered into the world.

I don't know where people get the Idea that it was an apple the Bible never says apple it says fruit. And most Bible scholars should know that the Bible, says that their eyes weren't open till Adam ate of the fruit.

However God chose to make man an immortal soul instead of just another naked ape, He, being the ultimate in generosity, added what are technically called the "preternatural" gifts. That is, goodies that are above and beyond what would go with standard human nature which is still very much tied to our biology.

These gifts included but are not confined to:

Immortality, we have a beginning but no end to our being. We were destined to live forever with Him.

Strength of spirit, the ability to withstand temptation if we choose to do so.

What we today would call ESP abilities. We are in His image, after all.

What we today would call psychokinetic abilities, mind over matter.

When whoever it was directly, deliberately and consciously disobeyed God's flat-footed command to stay away from whatever it was He really wanted them to stay away from, the result was the loss of those preternatural gifts.

Somehow they are tied to our biological selves through certain areas of the brain. Those areas have been closed off since. That they are there, and that they can be accessed is shown both by cat scan and by those persons who through human history have displayed certain of these gifts (though mostly without conscious ability to control them).

The baptized, having become a part of the Mystical Body of Christ are better able to access these areas of the brain.

But the important intent of Christ's coming and His sacrifice was to make immortality and life forever with God once again possible for everyone who accepted the gift of His sacrifice.

What we, the descendants of that original disobedient person got was the loss of those gifts. That loss is technically referred to as "the stain of Original Sin". NOT that our sins were to blame, but that we, through loss of the gifts, are more vulnerable to committing sin.

The "Original Sin" was disobedience due to pride.
The "stain" is the loss of the preternatural gifts.
The death and resurrection of Christ and the baptism of those who accept the Risen Lord as Savior restore some of those gifts.

Those who cooperate most fully with the Holy Spirit, who was sent by Christ to mentor and guide us, gain access to even more of the gifts. Thus you have the phenomena of
"saints" doing miraculous things. They are merely using those gifts which Christ has bought back for them. Some of them even learn how to use them consciously.

Hope this helped. And sorry for the length. This is NOT a subject which can be covered in 25 words or less.

Many parts of the Bible were written by people to make a point and, to instruct the many folks who could not read.
No one was around at the beginning of Mankind with a pencil and paper to record what happened.
Many of these stories and events were passed down orally over many generations ---to make a point.
Next time you are at a gathering , try whispering a story into someones ear and have them do the same for someone else and so on . By the time the story is retold to you -you will hardly recognize it.
Jesus told stories to make a point -parables these stories are not lies they are based upon life but are told to instruct us as to how to live.
Genesis is a poem written by man to start teaching his -people- about God and creation -he was telling a story to make a point.
The Bible is not a book written 'magically' It was written my Man. and learned men got together and decided among themselves what ti include in the book that they believed was what God wanted us to know .

I have often pondered this myself. It just occurred to me that if we are all still paying for the sins of Adam and Eve, even though we ourselves did not eat from the tree, because we are their decedents, does that mean that white Americans truly are still responsible for slavery? I personally never owned a slave and think it was deplorable, but maybe a long time ago one of my relatives did own slaves. My husband is of German ancestry, must he pay for Hitler's sins as well? My grandfather was a raging alcoholic. Should I put my daughter into rehab?lol

God put Adam and Eve in a garden. He gave them specific rules. Eve got tempted and disobeyed. The Bible doesn't say that she ate and apple, just a fruit. Adam ate it later with her. That act did create sin. We are all made in God's image. That's just life, humans (all of us) make a decision and think about it, some decisions affect many generations after we are gone. God in his generous grace made a way for us not to live in sin. We can have our sins washed away. Acts 2:38

Repent- say you are sorry for the wrong that you have done.
Be Baptized- In Jesus Name.
Get the Holy Ghost- Speak with other tongues magnifing God.

That is His plan so that we don't have to live in sin. Study your Bible you will learn and God will show you how to live a Holy, acceptable life for Him.

Because every generation after that has the knowledge of good and evil along with the choice to act on that knowledge.
All have sinned since - some daily.
