We really need to do something about it, all i ever hear about on T.V., radio, books, internet and everywhere else is how humans are impacting the planet in such a negative way. But what else can we do besides the obvious like recycling, saving energy, and not polluting????? Please help our earth before it's too late!!!!

Meteorological globophopes- The propaganda is in full swing.
I would worry more about the vast new tax frontier it is creating.
I think banning the use of private jets would be a good place to start.
Cessation of all military manuevers would make quite a dent also.
Taxing me and mine until we starve will solve nothing.

The answer to Global warming is there is none. i can remember when I was very young in NC that the temp one summer was well over 100 for about 3 weeks, every one said global warming. It has not been that hot since no where near it, so are they in a cooloing or what. Also when i moved to the high desert of california the temp that summer was average 110 or better. It has not been like that since. The world average temp has only gone up under 1 degree. Tell those last year in the mid west we have global warming when they had the coldest winter in 10 years. It is a problem when we spend millions upon millions of dollars to think we have a problem and the money could be spent otherwise. The reason we can not find an answer is it really doesnt excist. Now on the other hand recycling will help the Earth by not having to use so much of its resorces and trees. But global warming is for the birds. I try my best to recycle and cut down on the garbage count and to try and make things a little cheaper but I can do what the high dollar scientist are doing by coming up with a theory. A theory is only what someone thinks, give me a Billion dollars and I will make Global warming become the next big theory for Aliens to take over the world.

Whatever gave you the idea that the Earth is dying? Talk about a "chicken little" syndrome!

So what if the Earth is warming? It happens all the time! And when this cycle of warming is complete, it'll get cooler again and then there will be another ice age if it gets cool enough.

If man is not able to adapt to the natural cycles of our climate, then WE will become the next extinct species! That will just overjoy those that think that man is the spoiler of the planet. But if you believe that ... I've got a bridge in New York I'd love to sell you!

The only thing harming the Earth right now is the hyper-ventilated hysteria being pushed by those that are screaming about all that we have to do to "save the planet". They are playing on people's emotions, using questionable climatic computer models, calling the results absolute truth and "scientific consensus." These models cannot even take into calculation the amount of moisture in the air or the world's total precipitation! Two major factors in determining ANY trend in climate change! Accurate records of the weather have only been kept for the last 200 years. How can you attempt to determine the hard facts of climate change when the natural cycles last thousands and tens of thousands of years, with little fluctuations occuring all the time?

There is nothing wrong with conservation, recycling and trying to protect the environment we live in and provide that same environment or better to our children. Our technology improves all the time in giving us safer, cleaner products with less harm to the environment. But you've got to use a little common sense (a dying way of reasoning!) to determine just what you can control and what you can't control.

People are going to cave in to the pressure of "man-made gloBULL warming" and yield their freedom to choose how they live, what products they buy, what they eat, their choice of transportation, you name it, government wants to control it! And the sheeple braying about global warming are playing right into their hands!

I highly recommend everyone look at alternative opinions on Global Warming. A favorite of mine is the Politically Incorrect Guide to Global Warming and Environmentalism. I consider myself an environmentalist in as far as I try to aggressively do my part where I can. But what I've learned is that Global Warming due to man-made causes is a myth, created by media marketers. Why they created it is up to us all to decide. Is the Earth hotter now than ever before? No. Some areas are experiencing regional warming. Some are cooling. Some are unchanged. The fact is, none of the computer models have ever gotten anything correct. They cannot reproduce the past, so their predictions for the future are baseless.

Did you know that the US leads in air cleanness and improvement among industrial nations. We exceed all European nations, regardless of their claims. Furthermore, we are in a carbon dioxide deficit, which means our lush flora which has steadily increased as farming has decreased consumes more CO2 than produced by industry and animal breathing.

Now then, I believe in cleaning the environment, reducing emissions, picking up after ourselves, employing renewable resources when they make sense, because sometimes they do not. As ethical residents on this planet, we should do no less. However, a media machine is abusing our sense of responsibility and making us both guilty and afraid. If you believe this media hype, I recommend you consult the book I recommend below as a start.

Its going to be so hard to do to change . Actually we need a cheap clean energy to pull it off . We cant stop buying things that would only create a recession and a loss of allot of jobs .

With a clean cheap energy source only a few people will be hurt like the people invested in oil but business would go on as usual and it would create a tun of new jobs more then if we continue to use oil . Cold fusion is the way to go .Clean cheap never ending supply .The wealth that it would create in staggering not to mention the good such as watering and feeding the world . With clean cheap energy there would be no end to what man can do .We could all have our own green houses growing food all year round that would solve the world hunger problem distill ocean water that would take care of fresh water problem . anything you can imagine it would take care of .

The jobs it would open up from the demand for everything would be so high we would have to have robots do most of it . Dreams would come true . http://www.first-molecule.com

Actually, the Earth isn't "dying." Humans may participate in, or actually precipitate the next mass extinction event, but the Earth, and a few hardy species, will survive. It's just that humans, or, specifically, those who practice the "American Lifestyle" aren't likely to be on the list of survivors.

Unfortunately, as you see in previous answers, the issue of global warming has become highly politicized and is no longer a purely scientific topic.

Those who wish to take the political stance that "global warming is nonsense" aren't going to be convinced until after it's far too late to do anything, and those who want to initiate immediate "cures" are going to be eternally frustrated, so what can one individual, or group of individuals, do?

Well, for starters, you can evaluate your life and your pattern of behavior. If you aren't recycling now, you need to begin, and not just with aluminum cans and plastic containers- if an item isn't broken but you don't want it, give it away on Freecycle or sell it on eBay. Recycle whenever, whatever you can- it just makes economic sense. Part of recycling, the oldest part, is buying used instead of new.

Walk, bicycle, carpool, use the cheapest form of transportation you can find. The added benefit is saving money.
Pay attention to your vehicle costs- if you have a large SUV and you drive it alone most of the time, you're wasting money on a macho "image" that isn't going to feed you or your family.
Buy only as much car as you really need and will actually use.
When you replace the water heater in your home, replace it with a tankless model.

See, most of the things you can do to "save the planet" will actually save you money. Frugality wins, wastefulness loses.

The skeptics are correct about one thing- global warming and cooling is part of a natural cycle, but what they've missed, or choose to ignore, is that human activity has "nudged" the natural cycle in a direction that isn't healthy for us. The bright news, and again, something skeptics choose to ignore, is that we can, if we try, "nudge" it back the other way (it's called "mitigation." See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitigation_of_global_warming ).

The diehard skeptic Neanderthal will thick-headedly cling to his giant 4wd SUV until the oceans boil. Don't expect any help from that quarter.

I think it's blown way out of perportion. They are trying to scare us. I recently read and article about Mars and Uranus those plants are warming up at a more rapid pace then the earth. And they don't have people on it. I just think that the earth is warming but, that this is completly natural and isn't our doing. Of course I believe in recycling and taking steps to use less energy (it helps keep the bills low). But, I just feel that the Al Gore's in our society are trying to scare us into believing that it's our fault. Remember back in the late 70's early 80's when acid rain was going to ruin the world? Well, you don't hear much about that anymore and I still fish in our lakes and rivers and haven't died. The article I read was from NASA and Hubble so, it was a pretty good article from very reliable sources.

Our planet is NOT dying!

The whole problem is there are too many people! It is the opposite of dying. It is too much living! If there were only 1,000 people on the planet, they could all drive SUVs and not cause any global warming at all! It is only the billions of people all driving cars and generating electricity and making steel that causes global warming.

Global warming will stop when we run out of oil and coal. Oil will run out soon enough, but probably not coal. So we do need to find energy alternatives to coal. Either that or live like the Amish in the future.

I think it is sad. I think our Great Country should recycle more, which is a start. Why can't we recycle bigger things such as carseats. Seems like such a waste to throw a big piece of plastic in the trash.

Freecycle (www.freecycle.org) sites are great that way our landfills aren't filling up.Why does saving our planet such as "Going Green" as so many celebrities are advertising so costly to save in the future. Or why can't items be sold in more recycle containers. Or why can't more items be recycled like I said before. It all starts with the little stuff.

There is no threat, its political BS.

CO2 levels are a very small percentage of our Earth's atmosphere.
You know what generates and absorbs the greatest percentage of 'greenhouse gas'? THE OCEAN!
The amount of Co2 made by other means is LESS than 1%! The greatest generator of CO2 in that 1% is Volcanoes!
The amount left after that is mostly organic life generating Co2 naturally. One of the lowest percentages of CO2 emitters out of what's left of that 1% is human.
What humans make is in the THOUSANDTHS of a percent! How can Gore say that what we produce has ANY effect of the other 99.99%??
Plus, he tries to stigmatize CO2 likes it's man-made. It's completely natural and is abundant in nature and all living things.
How does he explain the fact that the current relative temperature is far below what it was in the past - even before man learned how to use fire? What about the hundreds of years during the medieval times when it was much warmer than it is now?
He never brings up the fact that his charts are aligned to hide the 800 year gap between the CO2 and mean temps on a timeline.
Which would show how CO2 follows temps changes.
Global warming is one of the biggest scams in human history.

Here's something Bush should do - he should announce that - "Ok, I guess Global Warming is happening. Since we now know it's real, we don't need to spend any more money on grants for research on the subject. As president, I want to pass new legislation to cut-off funding for global warming."
No need to spend money on something that's a 'scientific consensus' right?
Oh wait, all of those 'scientist' would be out of a job!
The whole 'Global Warming' economy would dry up.
It's really that simple. It's an industry.
Every year they hyped up the problem with more reckless and exaggerated claims just to land more and more funding.
No problem = no funding.
Problem getting worse = more and more funding.
Now did anyone here know all this.... or Are you all just part of the hype?

By the way - did you know that Al Gore's mansion (10,000 square feet) consumes as much energy as 20 average American homes, and that George W. Bush's home (4,000 square feet) it a model of energy efficiency, taking advantage of, nearly every energy saving device there is?

I think it's a bunch of garbage. Do your homework. The earth goes through cycles of cooling and warming all the time. Have you ever heard of the "little ice age" that only ended about 200 years ago? Also, the New York Times reported in the '70s that the planet was cooling at an alarming rate and we would all freeze to death. Which is it, freezing or warming? Please don't buy into the doomsday mentality.
