I'm currently enlisted in the Active Army component I was a former PSYOP soldier reservist I enjoyed the reserves but working a crap job and at my age I couldn't profit from anything better then waiting tables so I chose to switch to Active which is a good deal for a single guy like me the job security and pay and a place to live and I don't have to worry about makin rent on time anymore. Don't fear a deployment you have just as much of a chance getting killed here as you do over there. The experience you gain in the active army will also help you with your future careers when given leadership responsibilities it will help you in gaining a management job in the field you specialized while you were in the military. So if you have any questions I'll be frank with you just give me a hollar if you have some questions.

Don't listen to Perry, he doesn't have the intestical fortitude to serve. I would do Reserve. You go to work two days out of the month, and your required to do 2 weeks straight in the summer time. I'm in the Reserve, and yes, I have been deployed also. But if you join Active Duty, you don't have a chance of being a civilian again. But the plus side of doing active is that your contract is shorter than reserves.
Active Duty Max contract 3yrs
Reserve Contract 6-8 yrs minimum
Did you know the Army Reserve has the most people in the Army as a whole, including more than National Guard.
I like working 2 days out of the month, and I'm going to college, I also have a nice civilian job also.

Ignore the rude response above me.

With Reserve you only work at least 2 weekends a month, with only 1 paycheck period. Seriously though...what will you accomplish? The Army is hurting, so you will most likely be called up for Active Duty....so you're better off going AD anyways. You'll get a lot more benefits and sense of security at the end of the day.

My friend was in the Reserves, and he got a check every month, so I assume you would also. Neither is better, Hun, it would depend on your personal circumstance concerning your life and responsibilities at home. I am just glad that you want to belong to a group of people, who are the best folks to ever live. Our military. Good Luck in your life, and endeavors. Bless you.

You get more benfits as active duty but you can sign up for 2,4,6 year contracts with active duty, but they will make you do 8 totally the last 6,4,2 years can be reserves if you want. So really you could do both if you wanted.

in certainty, the two the national guard and Reserves are no longer concept-approximately properly, by using the energetic accountability forces. The national guard is understood-approximately extra useful than the Reserves are however. national guard does have wrestle hands. Reserves are purely help contributors.

If your plan is to get blown up by an IED, lose a leg, or an arm, or an eye, then go ahead. The Reserve is deploying just as much as the Active guys to Iraq. If you were my kid, I would break your legs so you wouldn't join.
