Are you allowed to buy things like anti-histamines, shaving lotion, and books on the base?
I know you can't bring benedryl or any OTC medication, but I know I will need some kind of allergy medicine...

I wasn't aware that only the Holiday Inn has the "luxury" of books and shaving cream.

I have very minor allergies sometimes... in the mornings I wake up stuffy and usually require a minor sudafed-type OTC product, but I'm not counting on having that luxury at RTC. I don't plan on shaving legs.. I agree it would take up way too much time and would be really vain.

Try to pack lightly, like underwear, deoderant, toothpaste, all your essential female stuff. The PX will have books available, you can actually buy OTC in boot camp. But you can't bring them there. Don't bring Ipods and Laptops to Basic, the Drill SGTS love to take those from you. If you have a Cell Phone try to hide it the best way you can. Make 4 copies of you orders, and keep them in your pocket at all times. Keep your shyt locked at all times, People will steal your shyt, even in Reception. I dont think you'll have time to read, maybe 15 minutes on Sunday, which is your only day off, and you get to go to church. BTW the Drill SGT can't stop you from going to church, and if your atheist go to ******* church, so you won't have to go on stupid duties. It's great to meet other soldiers and to get out of the base. Feel Free to contact me, if you have anymore questions.

Yes, you can buy those on base. Although, anti-histamines and other allergy medicines you will not be allowed to buy. It will have to be given to you by the MD.
You'll be given down time, and you will be able to walk to the Exchange or Shoppette where you can buy (at both locations) books and magazines, pens and paper (if you don't get them from your Drill Sergeant), deoderants, shaving cream and razors.
Unless you plan on wasting 20 minutes from your hour down time, I wouldn't bother about shaving your legs during BMT. You wont have time to do a lot of things really.

If you need allergy medication, go to sick call. The medics/docs will give you the meds you need.
The base will have a library, but in basic training, you will not have time to read.
Aftershave lotion? You are kidding right? It only attracts insects, anyhow.
Where do you think you are going.to a Holiday Inn?

They will supply you with allergy medication. But make damned sure they understand that you need it when you go through your physical. You will be under a lot of intimidation during that time, but this is one area you must speak out on. Your drill sergeant will back you on this, with a stern look and a cross eyed grin.
Good luck.
Peace

Really, don't bring anything except your address book. It will be the most intensive training and you won't have time to read. Everything else you can probably buy on base. IF it's not a prescription med...I don't think you should bring it. I really would not ask your recruiter what you can bring....they really don't know and they might just give you a line...

You will be relieved of all contraband in the Receiving barracks. If you require medication it will be issued to you.Bring nothing to recruit training! It will be considered contraband! The clothes you are wearing will be fine, you will lose them too.No radios, money, jewelry, pins, drugs, nothing. You are going to transition into a whole different person with a whole new life.what kind of allergies do you have?If it becomes a problem medically you might not get in or you could wash out of recruit training.

at USMC boot camp...yes, you can. There is a small store with hygiene products and a few other items you can purchase.
When you get to boot camp, the drill instructors will have you go through your things looking for items not permitable. I would take what medication you have, you may be able to keep it....at worst you will have to pack it with the rest of your items for storage

you will be allowed to buy toiletries only.. no luxuries like books or perfume. NO OTC meds at all, those will be dispensed by the corpsmen/medics at Sick Call.

nope you cant bring any of that. you can bring books... not that youll have a whole lot of time to read them. if your allergies are really getting in the way of training, you can go to sick call and ask for some meds. but if your in a platoon like mine, they dont let you go to sick call for little things like that. but good luck

When we got to the basic training site, they ask you to get rid of your medicine, and drugs if you brought it secretly with you. You can just ditch it privately in a room and they won't let you get in trouble. We use to hide our candy we got at the hosbital sick call in our tampon boses during wall locker inspection from our male drill SGT's.
