The first nine answers are from enlightened people and any others who know that getting pregnant is fantastically Godly.
Isn't the process the most fun you have ever had with another person?
Yet here, on Earth, the beauty and fun of having sex and giving birth must be carefully weighed against the rigors of raising a child for 18 or more years.
On the surface, having a child is painful because the baby pushes a woman's body to extremes. Beyond that, I think the experience of pain during labor is a way for women--fathers to a much lesser degree--to remember the critical nature of the awesome responsibility of raising children.

I think that a loved child born into an intact family unit is a gift from G-d, not the baby persay but the ability for two people who love eachother to partake in the act of creation- THAT is the gift. I think that a child born into unstable circumstances and with few-to-no opportunities as a result of irresponsible sex is unfair to the child. Even more unfair- pregnancy resulting from rape. Surely many would not call that a gift.
Pregnancy is a gift in many ways-it allows one to get in touch with the process of creation. Unfortunately it's also sometimes a hormonal, moodswinging nightmare! Yet even those mood swings have benefits- they can hep one to know their own weaknesses, and both parents to know their own selves and each other more fully.
Labor is labor- it's work which is done and at the end of it is a beautiful new being.
It is simply an excellent example of being rewarded for hard and worthy work!

Yes. Especially and even more so, the baby is a gift from God. The pains of labor are not a gift but they are a punishment because Eve at of the tree. Just read Genesis 3

You can thank the serpent & Eve for your pains, In Gen. 3:16 when God cursed the woman for having a relationship out of God's due purpose for repopulation only, God then cursed the womans reproductive organs & he greatly multiplied her sorrows & her conceptions, in other words, She will now suffer more pain due to the fact she did not wait on God. And she will have more conceptions. Ask yourself why don't woman tody know exactly when she can conceive, she lost that knowledge in the garden.

Birth is a beautiful thing and yes it is a gift from god!!. Yes it hurts but that comes from the Adam and Eve story about suffering for their sins. I really don't know if I believe in all that stuff but I do know that the pain makes woman the stronger of the sexes.

No. The current scientific theory is that pregnancy is the result of people having sex. This is called the Theory of Human Sexual Reproduction. Sure, the Christian fundies will scream "this is only a theory" but there is significant evidence that pregnancies are the result of sex, no matter how repugnant the Christians find this to be.

Life is a gift from God. The pains are a result of disobedience of Adam and Eve.
