A woman should not wear white, black, or red to a wedding. That's straight from Miss Manners.

I think a white top is fine. I think the idea is not to wear white
because it might draw attention from the bride's lovely white dress. To tell you the truth, I don't think anybody really gives a damn about this stuff anymore. Wear whatever you want except for a bridal gown and you'll be just fine.

You can do what you want, of course, a white top might be okay if you didn't "outshine" the bride; but the question is, WHY? Why wear anything that might be seen as inappropriate. You MUST be concerned about that or you wouldn't be asking the question in Q&A. Therefore, I'd be safe and wear something else. SOMEONE will surely comment.

I think a white top would be ok. The dress would be questionable because it looks like one is trying to "outshine the bride" but nowadays it seems like pretty much anything goes at weddings.

I think that it's not apropriate to wear a white dress or skirt to a wedding;you'll look as if you wanna steal the lights from the bride.White shirts and tops can be replaced with pastel ones.
Best Luck

A white blouse is different than wearing a white dress. You are not to up stage the bride is all so if you are wearing a skirt with a white top, you would be all right.

no, it is not proper. It draws attention from the bride. It is usual to wear something light and happy, save the black for a funeral. A white top would be fine, but not too much, but I suggest a dress.

Yes. It also depends on the time of day...white would be okay for a morning/informal wedding, just as black is okay for a formal evening wedding.
You can't outshine the bride unless you arrive in a white wedding dress, then there might be a problem!

Why take the chance of offending the bride, a person who is v. likely a friend of yours (or your boyfriend/husband's) and wear something that she might not like? I agree with everyone - you've probably got lots of other choices for outfits that are pretty and appropriate. Save white for another occasion.

I would wear a white top. My mom wore an ivory dress to my brothers wedding last weekend (Aug 4th) and the dress shop said that it is fine as long as it is not pure white
