yuck. I wouldn't have taken that either!
I think you should complain because this person must use the normal health and hygeine regulations.

I agree that you shouldn't take the fish but i also feel you have come into a little undeserved criticism here.
You describe the man as being black because i assume he was.
What therefore is the issue with saying it,was it not simply a way to add depth to your question. Some people on here have really got to wake up from the PC rubbish and realise that people do actually come in different colours.
From a white and proud of it man.

Race aside, (I'm ignoring that bit), he was still not properly handling food. Even if you wash your hands 8 billion times, stuff still gets under the shortest nails. You might want to politely point out to the boss that you don't feel that the food is being handled in a hygienic matter and it would be nice to see them wearing gloves and using tong. Don't bring up race when you mention it.

Why mention that the man was coloured - it sounds prejudice to me - I have been to several stores in the past and seen numerous assistants of all races handle food incorrectly - so either complain to the store manager or just do not use that store again - do not use this as an excuse for racial abuse !

Once, when I was shopping at a supermarket bakery, a guy bagged my chosen items with his bare hands, which didn't look very clean. I just took the bag and threw it in a nearby trash bin.
By the way- why did it matter that your guy was black? All men are dirty and gross, regardless of the color of their skin...

First, this is a questions site, not a place to vent your irritation. Second, why is it important to mention the colour of the guy's skin, and then you contrast him with "normal" people? Third, of course you should have complained, this guy is obviously not trained for the job he's being asked to do - it's nothing to do with the "type" he is.

Yes that is poor hygiene for the food industry, but the man's skin colour has nothing to do with it. Perhaps your attitude might also need an update?

We have got a right old bag who works on the fish stall in our supermarket.
She is rude, dirty, smelly ( and i dont mean she stinks of fish).
I have complained about her twice because of her attitude but she is still rude to everyone.

i used to stop off on the way to work at a local shop to get my tea break. he sold filled baps mainly cheese and corn beef and tuna. but one morning i was 10 minutes early and i'm glad i was. this old scrag with a stinkin mutt walked in and lifted every bap and poked it and rapped it with her knuckles. she looked like she hadnt seen soap in 50 years. honestly she stank of piss and excrement. the shopkeeper said nothing as she picked the bap of her choice. i just walked out again. never to return. a few days later public health and the tax agency ripped apart that shop some scumbag grassed them up, can you believe that?

you should complain if you don't the problem can never be sorted, don't put up with it .Standards have to be met by not telling the boss he is under the assumption that all is ok when it truley is not,in fact he could be losing trade because customers will not come back i doubt that you will.

I wouldn't have made that purchase either. I don't take lightly to ANYONE who handles my food in an unsanitary manner.
