Actually the bible is often referred to as The Good Book, not the great book. And while I do not for a nano-second believe anything that is written in it, I do believe that it is a very important part of our culture. We read books about ancient Greek, Roman and Egyptian (to name just a few) Gods and rituals, yet we don't believe them, they are stories. We can look at the Bible in the same way, as a window into our past.

Because it is the most read and distributed book in the world. And because it is great because it comes from God. By use of his holy spirit he caused humans to write down the bible. This is what my bible says in the first part of 2 Timothy 3: 16: "All scripture is inspired of God."

It comes from the word 'bibble', which means 'dirty old nomads' dribble' in Cockney rhyming slang.
