Apparently god's translator / lackey.
Because god is too important and mighty to talk to a maggot like you (or you would explode if he did), the "Holy Spirit" has to do the talking for him in a way you might be able to recognise.
Y'know.... sorta like Bib Fortuna is for Jabba the Hutt.
Unfortunately, the "Holy Spirit" is just as invisible, inaudible, intangible and otherwise non-apparent as the G-man himself.... making his role completely worthless.

The Holy Spirit is God and the third Person of the Blessed Trinity. The Holy Spirit sanctifies us and is present in all of the Sacraments as well as being manifested at the Baptism of Jesus.

I want to believe that God is the Holy Spirit. He incarnates into human beings to enable Him to speak because as a Spirit He does not have a physical body of His own.

Christians believe that the Holy Spirit leads people to faith in Jesus and gives them the ability to lead a Christian life. The Spirit dwells inside every true Christian, each one's body being His temple (1 Corinthians 3:16). The Holy Spirit is depicted as a 'Counselor' or 'Helper' (paracletus in Latin, derived from Greek), guiding people in the way of the truth. The Spirit's action in one's life is believed to produce positive results, known as the Fruit of the Spirit. The Holy Spirit manifests these gifts by enabling a person to access his or her own innate abilities. Through the influence of the Holy Spirit a person sees more clearly the world around him or her and can use his or her mind and body in ways that exceed his or her previous capacity.

I think Az pretty much covered it. For me, the Holy Spirit is all that...and more. When I read the Bible, the Holy Spirit helps me understand what I'm reading. If a person attempts to read the Bible WITHOUT asking for understanding from God, we end up with sites like evilbible.com. A person can only understand the CULTURAL (caps only for emphasis) context if they've studied it, and they can only understand the SPIRITUAL (again, only for emphasis. Wish I could italicize or underline.) context if God lends them understanding.
The Holy Spirit has revealed things to me, things I can't possibly describe...but are real, nonetheless.
It convicts me when I sin...and it's in the Holy Spirit that I find the answers to my prayers.
And most of all, I pray for the Holy Spirit's guidance when I answer questions on here. Many people here are truly seeking answers, and the only thing that can help them understand is the Holy Spirit. It comes to those who ask; Jesus promises us that.
"Ask, and you will receive..."

Unfortunately, I can only speak for myself.
The Holy Spirit manifests itself in me by giving me strength to endure that which life deals out regardless of whether it's fair or right or necessary.
It radiates from my being like an invisible shield and protects me from the wrath of those who would do me harm or spiritual injustice.
It gives me words to write in these forums that would not otherwise come to me, for I am neither eloquent nor articulate.
It helps me to discern the correct path for myself and seek that of righteousness to the best of my abilities.
It instills in me an ability to empathize with the feelings of others, take notice of that which must be praised or confronted, and otherwise attempt to walk in the light of the Most High.
It protects, upholds, and gives relevance to the spirituality within my activities of daily life.
