Do you accept the status of women in the Koran?

I certainly do not.

To be on intimate terms with a women, I find that she has to be my equal as a human being, but opposite in having the attributes of femininity.

I am relatively short for a man (5' 7"), but an interesting fact is that all my past girlfriends have been exactly the same height as myself (5' 7") which seems to be a rather telling and interesting symbolism - but interestingly, now as not as before, I find tall woman attractive - sometimes I see a man with a woman who is about 6" taller than him - I think that is cool.

However, to get back to the point, only the Christian world-view (when understood correctly) affirms the equal human worth of women, while recognizing the legitimate poles of femininity and masculinity, whereas the Koran does not, simply treating the woman as a man's slave - that is a world-view I simply cannot subscribe to.

I own religious texts from several major religions, and I reference them all constantly. Many Christians do, to widen their knowledge base. (Don't have a Qu'ran yet, unfortunately). How could I say that I wholeheartedly believe in Christianity if I completely ignore all of the other possibilities?

Personally, I'd straight up ask her. Whatever she says, accept it as her stance. Then get yourself a new one. If she takes that one too, get a new one. If she continues, then her behavior is setting a poor example of Christianity.

Dear sis,

I will not go into details in answering your question, for it will somewhat be quite offensive to some of our christian brothers, even to some of our muslim brothers out there...so I will keep it blunt yet comprehensive.

You did not explain on whether you are already a Muslim or not, although you specifically mentioned that your Mom is a Christian.

Nevertheless, she IS YOUR MOM...
Any religion in this old and dying planet, tells us to be respectful to our parents...In Islam, the respect will go more to your Mother, because she deserves the right to be respected, loved and adored by her child/children. So, if you are a Muslim, then you MUST show respect and good manner towards your parents no matter what, even if your parent's religion differs from yours...it is written in the Koran..find it..

It is understandable if your Mom was trying to protect you from something she does not approve or understand, it is her nature to protect her family...Thus, it would be appropriate that you should thank her for protecting you...but, if you really want to study the Koran, you will have to try to make her understand, that Islam is just another religion that has different perceptions on God and humanity...talk to her, softly...if she still doesn't approve..let her be..you will still have to respect her views and understanding...SHE IS YOUR MOTHER.

Should you still have the urge on studying the Koran, I suggest that you study it someplace else...do not offend your parents..never offend your parents...especially your mom...

Having said all that, I would really like you to understand the importance of tolerance amongst one another, especially towards your parents.

As for the differences of how one particular religion views their God, please, let us all not dwell into that conversation,...for each religion has their own respected beliefs and views.

Let us all not dispute on our differences, yet, let us see and agree on the very basis of harmony of humanity and mankind...which is the SIMILARITY of the whole, not the differences...the basic fact of our similarity is that we are all HUMAN BEINGS......and that makes you and I.......brothers and sisters...

Just ask her if she took it. Tell her that you are studying other religions because you're interested. Be kind with her and do not get angry. She might just be afraid, so invite her to talk with you about why she took it in the first place.

Parents really have no right to force their kids into any religion. It's just taking away freedom-- even if the kid is underage they still have a right to choose.

How about, "Hey mom, where the hell is my Quran? I thought you were a good Christian. Why are you stealing?"

Just be easy as she might be worried. Just talk to her and tell her its only work and studies. She might be scared or sad you are reading about this. I know many parents do this out of worry for their kids. Be chill and ask her aimicably

Your mom seems like a wise woman. Have you not noticed all the violence that islam breeds in the middle east. Have you not noticed that islamic societies have not made any moral ethical or technological progress in 1500 years. You are down the wrong path and your mother guiding you back to morality and being a ethical person. Thank her!

Way to go mom!

I like your mom !!

I love Arabs, but I disagree with their religion. Same I love Israelites, but I disagree with their strategies. Same that I hated the Crusades, even the last one we are living now.
I wish my mom did the same with all her stupid Saints images.
