I'm so tired of people accredditing and blaming God and Satan-- why can't people take responsibility for their own actions instead of blaming someone else? It's a coward's way.

I never heard that one before. I've heard many theories about how religion got started but this is a new one. We needed somebody to blame. Well, works in politics I guess.

genetics. our DNA says "survive, outlast, outwit, and out-hump the competition to spread these genes as long as they will go!" competition for limited resources leads to things which can be cruel to our fellow humans.
this is true on a larger scale as well, because what is good for the community benefits you, which is why patriotism and racism are so easy for so many people to fall into without consiously deciding to do so.

....I'm going to take a wild stab and say....
MAN.
And frankly, I think people do need to start taking responsibility for themselves, and for their actions that harm others without any due cause.
