What difference would it make?
Lap dogs could not protect you and even if they tried they would just be smashed against a wall or stepped on.

Even if there were, even if they did, the point would be moot since protective instincts without the proper size behind it means nothing. The most ferocious, protective Chi in the world, I know, I am really pushing it here, is totally useless as a protection dog due to its lack of size. Better rely on something that weighs at least 50 pounds or better.

Of course. Naturally this depends on the individual dog rather than any specific breed.
And every dog mother has natural protective instincts for her babies.
My little Pom got pushed around a lot by the 2 cats of the house. But once she got pregnant she was having none of it and she made sure none of them were even coming near to her little baby.
Naturally without protective instincts dogs and their progeny would never have survived for the millenia that they did before their relationship with humans.

well little dogs are normally there to give a warning bark but lots of little dogs can be very protective with their owners. Also sometimes overprotective and yes it's good in some ways but not when they deny the company of your friends and even family when there around you! Good Luck!

Absolutely, small dogs don't know that they are small....my mom had a Shitzu that was the most ferocious little dog. When anyone came to the door or came near my mom, she would go ballistic.
When mom would then tell the dog to rest, she would calm right down.
That little ball of fur was the most protective dog I ever saw.

The second and third most likely dogs to bite are non-standard poodles and Chiawawas (even spell check can’t spell this breed!). Most terriers are protective too.

There are several, but I have a rat terrier, he's very affectionate and very protective. When he's sitting on my lap my husband can't even touch me without Cricket growling at him. He's too cute!!!!!!

Every dog has its own instincts, it doesn't matter about the breed. i have a lhasa apso and it says they are supposed to be "protective" kinds of dogs...
