hi.. I just got my Citizenship of another country. I am to surrender my Indian passport to gain the passport of the other country. Unfortunately I seem to have lost my Indian Passport. Do I still need to apply for a duplicate Indian passport only to be able to surrender it..? Or can I just take an FIR along with passport copy (which I have) and surrender the same..?

Along with the said documents i.e. FIR & passport copy which you have you may be asked to give duly signed & attested Affidavit to this effect that in case the lost passport is recovered at any time by you will be legally bound to surrender it to the Indian Passport authorities. Since you are in a foreign country now & you have got the new citizenship of that country you should meet the relevant staff of the Indian Embassy & get further details in this regard. As far getting a duplicate passport on the ground of the original lost or stolen is concerned the documents required are which you have got, but since you have already got citizenship of another country you may be asked to surrender your original Indian passport which you have lost, hence the procedure in such case will be these which I told you here.

You have to report about the loss to the Police and get an FIR
You report about this with the FIR copy to the Indian passport authority and
also to the other country in which you have the passport:
Indian passport authorities will guide you accordingly
This is a special case: and it is determined by the authorities:

Execute an affidavit of loss for your passport and use this to apply for your new passport.
