Personally I think that if you feel awkward being intimate with a "new" guy then you are moving too fast! When you both take a bit of time to get to know each other then being intimate will not only not be awkward but it will be such an exciting experience getting to know each other Very "Personally"!
Don't give away your most precious gift too easily, it just may not be appreciated as much as it should be!
If he respects you, (the most important thing in a relationship), then he will be happy to wait until you feel as though you are ready.

I'd just let it come naturally. Talk to him a lot and spend time with him. Get over being awkward together by being together and then just let everything else fall into place. Make sure your both ready for anything your wanting to do and everything should be fine. Don't worry about it. If you don't feel awkward then he wont. Be yourself and be confident.
