I am trying to become stronger in my catholic faith, and have always been interested in the Rosary. I'm not sure how you are supposed to pray, though. I'm under the impression that we can pray the Rosary if we need assistance in our lives (Trouble with a loved one, going through tough times, etc.) and Mary/God will help us. However, when it comes to the mysteries, we're also supposed to be meditating on those at the same time? I don't understand how we're supposed to be seperating ourselves into two parts while praying instead of giving our full attention to the prayer.

I do hope that that made sense. Perhaps I've just been misinformed? I've never really been able to attempt the Rosary because I have had so much trouble with it, since I don't know much about the mysteries at all. Thanks for your help!

The rosary of the Catholic church is not much different rom the spinning prayer wheels of the buddhists.
The more times they turn, the more prayers ' go out'.
Apparently, each time a bead is fingered it is a prayer to God. A bit like prayers on the cheap.
Jesus made it plain that your prayers should be heart felt and not the same words over and over.

(Matthew 6:7) But when praying, do not say the same things over and over again, just as the people of the nations do, for they imagine they will get a hearing for their use of many words.

Counting rosary beads does exactly this...

The Rosary is wonderful "Contemplative" prayer..... its OK if you need and follow a guide of the Mysteries.... what they are and in what order.... but the key to it is the contemplative part...to focus and contemplate on the particular mystery as you pray the Hail Marys.

By focusing and contemplating on the Gospel accounts of the Life of Jesus, it will draw you in closer to Him and bring down grace. Don't give up on it. It is well worth the effort. After a while it is no longer effort but joy. May God Bless.

Please ignore the ignorance of some of these other answers. We know the beads themselves are only an aid to prayer and the "Mysteries" are nothing more than the key events in the Life of Christ. The Rosary has also been called "The Prayer of The Gospels". And this what Mary does.... directs us and focuses on Jesus Christ.

When I began praying the Rosary with my brother we would pray the Hail Mary's concentrating on the prayer and without meditating on the mysteries. Till our mom corrected us and told us that the correct way of praying the Rosary was to say the prayer with our lips and think of the Mystery events in our mind. We thought she was kidding till we found out that it was true. It took some effort but I began doing it and found that it was more helpful in increasing graces. If you find it difficult, just read a description of the Mystery in a book and then proceed to pray. You will automatically think of those events. Or look at a picture of the corresponding Mystery as you pray, to aid you, till you are able to do it without books or pictures. The purpose is to keep our whole body focussed on prayer- our lips, our mind, our heart.

You are right about the Rosary bringing you assistance. It is called the 'Scourge of Satan' and drives away evil, sin and danger and saves us from the fires of hell. All the Roman Catholic saints were devoted to the daily Rosary. When Our Lady appeared in Fatima in 1917 , She asked the faithful to pray the Rosary everyday (at least five decades). She said that not once, but repeated Herself, in order to emphasize its importance to our souls in the 20th century. So say the daily Rosary to protect yourself and your loved ones.

Here are the fifteen promises of Our Lady to those who faithfully say the daily Rosary:

Well... you're not supposed to understand the mysteries. If you did, they wouldn't be mysterious, would they?

Grab a rosary necklace and starting at one end, hold a bead and say the Hail Mary. Repeat on the next bead. Keep going until you finish.

Then go and read Galatians and Ephesians and think about why a works-based faith is worthless.

The holy rosary being prayed by the catholics is false prayer. It is a repetitions of the Holy Mary . . . . . and the Hail Mar . . . . . . then on the litany, the box, the jew, the queen of angels, the tower of David anbd many others which are not God are being prayed for.
that is a violation of the teachings of the bible.
