after all no post on an internet forum will ever change my views on life.. and i assume most people are the same. So why argue? Why not "agree to disagree" ?

Okay, that's fair. Remember that even though I am a Mormon and of Christian faith, I recognize that we as a ppl don't own the proprietary rights to goodness. For that matter neither does any denomination. Even further, Non Christan's have and are entitled to good tidings. It belongs to Christ, he gives to whom he wants. If your not of Christ does that make you a mean person, no just your actions. There are plenty of good wholesome people with no religion, doing good everyday. Good Question.

I feel no reason to change others but it does seem that many want to change me. Here is my take on it: we all have a small piece of the truth. If can only put them all together we may find enough of the puzzle to truly understand.

Because a lot of religious groups teach that anyone who is not them is going to Hell and an all-around bad person. And to this the nonreligious react. It's a lovely little circle :(

Discussing things makes us think, and it's good to think. Occasionally, people do change their minds, even on major things like religious belief.

many people find arguing fun. and while i agree with you, this forum would probably be less interesting without it. lol.

i think soem people do that out of general concern for the other person. if you really think I'm going to go to Hell for not believing in God, it seems kinda mean not to try to help, doesn't it? the same is true the other way. if you really think I am doing ymself a dis-service by not paying attention to science and being "backwards", isn't it mean to not enlighten me to science?

besides that, religion is just touchy by nature. if we all think we're right and none of it can be proven one way or another, that is a tense situation already. bring into it that people base their entire lives around it, including interactions with family and friends, and it is a crucible waiting to boil over with insults.

That's boring. I like some of the puns and humor and if it doesn't at least make you think then you're probably closed minded. It should at least help you hone your arguments.
It's the ones that are half drunk or completely drunk that are really annoying.

because 'beliefs' are based mostly on faith...and for some other people to put their faith in another belief than yours casts doubt as to one of your respective beliefs to be wrong. This doubt makes you unable to accept your beliefs without insisting that theirs is wrong.

the bottom line is the desire to share what each one believes to be true. other than pride, it's the spirit of sharing your belief up to the point of arguement just to relay what you think is right. and you will be expecting that these people will wake up from what you think is wrong, just to realized it will never happen becaue each one stands frim on what they believe in!
