given the recurrence of the wager on this board there must be Christians who feign belief or pretend to believe "just in case there is a god and a hell".

Please, step forward.

That is a restatement of Pascal's wager. "If there is a God, He is infinitely incomprehensible, having neither parts nor limits. He has no relation to us. We are therefore incapable of knowing what He is or whether He is. This being so, who will dare to solve the problem? Not we who have no relation to Him. you must wager--- Which will you choose? Let us weigh the gain and loss in calling "heads" that God is. Let us weigh the two cases; if you win, you win all; if you lose you lose nothing. Wager then unhesitatingly that He is."

I never engaged in a feigned or half-hearted spirituality just for fire insurance. How silly to think that some god-like being couldn't see right through that. When the time comes and you look Jesus in the eye you will be quite aware that He knows just how much you ever cared to get to know Him

You know, those people who believe "just in case there is a god and hell" might as well quit their belief because they wouldnt go to heaven anyways because they never truly believed in the first place. Theres no "just in case" when it comes to the word of God. Its either you believe it completely or not. No middle ground. No "maybe". As far as myslef, I believe every word of the bible because i study and I've found it to be true

No..I really believe. I used to believe just in case..but God has really done so much in my life and so many things for me that I could no longer deny that there really had to be a God...then again I know that to many that doesn't count because it is an emotional/heart thing..not a mental thing...Well some might call me mental =) and that's OK.

All "god-believers" are occasional agnostics and some are occasional atheists. That's what the term 'back sliding' is all about. If enen one believer can honestly say that his faith has never been weak or failing, if he can say that he's never had a single moment of doubt, i'd suggest that the bible has finally gotten it's first correct answer - Jesus has truly come back to walk the earth again. Holy Chit...!

(... oh ... and the lot of you who've claimed you've never lost faith, well, that's called fibbing and it isn't a nice thing to do.)

That thought crosses my mind everyday, what if is and what if there isnt. i like the thought of having something to hold onto in times when i feel weak or scared. if im wrong when my time comes atleast i tried to live by some set of morals. thats gotta count for any kind of religion..id rather just believe "just in case"

If your true to your belief then one must acknowledge that it is based upon truths. Anyone who does not believe and does it as you claimed, "Just in Case" is better than doing noting about your disbelief. To do nothing is cowardly advise and devotion. My stance is immovable, my mind is opened as is my heart. My sins remind me of my faith on water. Peter, walked a few steps the collapsed, Christ reply, "Oh ye of little faith." Does this mean he didn't believe and adopted the theory of, "Just In Case". No he is human and is subject to ridicule from the adversary. Are you believing Just in case...?

My boss is in his 60's and was a confirmed Atheist until earlier this year when he possibly had something seriously wrong healthwise - he ended up completely fine, no troubles whatsoever - but he says now that he believes just in case.

I think if anyone believes just for that reason alone and their faith does nothing more for them, then it would only be a matter of time before they would turn away from their faith.
Belief, without substance will vanish quickly.

The Scriptures says if our faith is not true then we are the most miserable men...

But the truth is we will walk on streets of gold and enter a gate of pearl and see the crystal New Jerusalem and enjoy Christ's company...

I pray that I could walk with you in Heaven some day...
