To add to Jens answer: If money is no object, go for the Canon 5D or the 30D. Both are incredible cameras, Canon lenses are outstanding, and the 5D has a full size CCD chip (only two cameras currently have full size [size of film] chips). This makes a difference because otherwise, if you're shooting a 17mm lens to get a fisheye effect, you have to take into account the cameras crop factor, and you will no longer have fisheye from a 17mm lens, and will actually have to find a 10mm.

My personal suggestion for you however, is the Pentax K-100D. At about $650, it's comparable in price to the Canon Rebel XT, but having used both, I believe the K-100D will give you a better camera for the money.

Do some research. There are a lot of great SLR cameras on the market. My choice is the Nikon D80. As with any camera it is the lens that will make or brake a good image. So when looking check out the lenses that you will be needing for the type of images you will be taking.

Do you have any experience on Compact camera..? If you did, do you take a next step on experiencing a Prosumer camera..?

Or apart from that both, do you had any film SLR experience..?
(u can exemtion on those both if did well on this)

If there arent any experience on lower than DSLR camera, you will definately regret on buying DSLR with its complicated mode, alien features, skills, blah blah..So my suggestion is, fulfill the above requrement first.

Otherwise, Nikon would be fine. D40 for beginner and keen user, D80 for challanging user, D200 for advance professional user. Study the camera specification and comparison on tons of website provided.

LoL

Have you used an amateur DSLR? The fact that you ask this question implies, to me at least, that you have not.If not why do you want to buy a professional model?
