levels don't lie. The bubble of a level is ether in the middle or it's not. Something is either strait and true or it's not level. So being on the level means your telling it strait and true. That is where the saying comes from.

when someone says they are on level it means they are at par with you and can be trusted by you. It means they are on equal grounds with others and there is no discrepency in the levels or postions of others
