Nissan is indeed Infinity's parent company. Many of their models are built upon the same platfoms. There are however many style and performance differences between the two brands. Infinity is intended to be the luxury line of the two.
Of the Infinity makes which share a common build platform with the Altima, there are 2 that I am aware of:
The Infinity G35, and
The Infinity M
I left a link for the Infinity website below. Magazines such as Car and Driver, or Road and Track can provide more detailed cross references between the two brands.

Yes Infinity is the luxury brand for Nissan in the US. Same deal as Acura and Honda or Lexus and Toyota. Only the Honda's are actually using the same cars and trucks for both brands. Toyota/Lexus and Nissan/Infinity share the trucks but the cars are different (except for the FWD Lexus car)
The closest Infinity to a Altima is the G37. However they are completely different cars. The Altima is FWD and the G37 is RWD.

Infiniti is the luxury branch of Nissan, but the G35 is based off of the 350Z. They have the same engine, transmission, and many other parts. They also look very similar, with their fastback look. As far as I know, the Altima doesn't have an Infiniti counterpart. Also, the G35 and 350Z are RWD, while the Altima is FWD.

The g-35 is close to the 350Z. Infinity has done some thing in the past few years to make there total product line more upscale. So now most Infinity cars are rear wheel drive or all wheel drive. And there are less dressed up Maximas / I-30 Infinity was discontinued.

Same company, same engine (albeit with much-different tuning), wholly-different platform. (Nissan's front-drive D platform underpins the Altima, the Maxima and the Murano; Infiniti's G is on the rear-drive FM platform, as is the 350/370Z.) Still, I can't blame Nissan for designing a $30k car that looks like a dead ringer for their $40k car, even if they're otherwise almost nothing alike.

Yes, I have an Infinity G35, it is made by Nissan. My vehicle has AWD, I don`t know if the Altima has the same. I`m very happy with my car. It is a 2006 model, no problems what-so-ever.
