I have been fostering 3 newborn kittens for the past 5 days. They are about a week old and are starting to open their eyes. I have been stimulating them to defecate but they have not been defecating. It's been 3-4 days and I'm worried. CAn I give them lactulose solution? How much do I have to give and how often? I feed them Animalac Plus. Do I have to make any changes to the formula? for example, add more water?

well..... i have done this to before, i never had this problem before. i would con salt a vet. they should of done it by now. i believe they must of even if unnoticed because this long they would die. but the do take in a large amount of what they are feed to grow so I'm not sure but i would ask a vet.you can try to stimulate them with a warm cloth. and look for heavy swollen tummy.

How are you stimulating them? Try a warm wet cloth. If that does not work
You would want to increase the strength of the formula, and feed slightly smaller amounts, but feed more frequently. If the kitten has a swollen abdomen and hasn't passed a bowel movement in over a day, you may want to try mineral oil given by mouth (3 drops per ounce of body weight). You may want to discuss with your vet whether or not a warm, soap-water enema can or should be given.

I don't think it is wise to give them any medication. What I did with the kittens I was fostering is add a little bit of honey to their milk. I don't know if it helped, but it can't harm them. What the vet advised me was to use a human baby enema of glycerine. Don't put it in the anus, just in contact with the anus and press some of the glycerine in. Don't worry too much, mine were constipated too for a few days, but they turned out OK. If they don't poop for 5 days though it's better to get them to the vet for an enema.

Quick... they need an enema. Your vet clinic has teeny tiny enema syringes or sometimes you can get them at the pet store. But move quickly, this is life-threatening in tiny kittens.
