Because religion doesn't change as science makes new discoveries.
Changing would mean admitting that the Bible was wrong. So the Bible remains the same, science evolves, and the gap grows ever wider...

I think it all comes down to the fact that people don't really look for the truth entirely. They read one side of something, or listen to one side and completely denounce anything the other side has to say. Most people who believe in religion rarely ever look into (and by look into I mean contemplate and consider) what science has found and how that can match up with their beliefs. Most people who believe in science rarely ever look into (again, consider and contemplate) the different religions to see if it matches or not. When people aren't listening to one another there will always be a clash...many times over nothing.

At one point everything that had to do with science was part of religion. Now that the two are gradually becoming separated, people who are religious tries to pull it together again while those who favor truth through science attempts to separate it and possibly erase religion.
They're doing the opposite things, no doubt they will oppose each other and cause conflicts.

Because for some reason people today think that the two are opposing forces........
True science, at it's very heart, is actually the study of God.
Romans 1
20 For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.

Science is based on reality and can be proven with concrete evidence.
Religion is based on faith and can't be proven. You could point to the sky and say "God's up there," but wouldn't be able to prove it.
Oftentimes religion preaches things and people take it very seriously, and then science finds something that can prove it crazy and wrong. Religious people want to believe what they do, scientific people are eager to prove otherwise. They contradict each other.

Because religion basically says that science is wrong, and science says that religion is wrong. Science brings up evolution, whereas certain religions bring up Adam and Eve.

Their fundamental nature is such that they must clash. Religion requires belief in supernatural phenomena; science explicitly prohibits it. This distinction permits a precise categorization of any idea whatever.

Because science is contradictory to what religion says.
Also because one is the truth and the other one is just a bunch of fairy tales
